Job Title: Pharmacy Customer Support Representative / Pharmacy Technician Job Description

The Pharmacy Customer Support Representative plays a key role within Pharmacy Operations by handling inbound and outbound calls, scheduling refill deliveries, running medical claims, and ensuring that patients, clinicians, and clients receive a high level of customer service. This position supports a large specialty pharmacy environment and focuses on accurate information gathering, empathetic communication, and efficient coordination of non-clinical inquiries related to prescriptions and payments.

• Serve as the primary resource for outbound telephone calls to minimize workflow interruptions caused by non-clinical customer inquiries, including general prescription status and financial information.
• Handle inbound and outbound calls to schedule medication deliveries and payments, ensuring accurate information is captured in patient profiles so distribution can send packages in a timely manner.
• Respond directly to customer inquiries when appropriate or route calls to the appropriate staff members to ensure prompt resolution and high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Demonstrate empathy and professionalism when speaking with patients, addressing their questions and concerns with sensitivity and respect.
• Run medical claims and document concise progress notes so other team members can quickly assess the status of referrals within the workflow.
• Use the management information system to provide customer service, including answering questions about refill needs, providing status updates on pending or shipped prescriptions, verifying insurance information, and supplying copies of invoices upon request.
• Address patient questions and concerns during refill scheduling and transfer calls to the clinical team, including pharmacists and nurses, when clinical input is required.
• Identify and report adverse events (AEs) and product complaints (PCs) to clinicians in a timely manner to support patient safety and compliance.
• Perform accurate data entry related to prescriptions, claims, and patient information to support pharmacy operations.
• Support prior authorization processes and retail pharmacy-related activities as needed, depending on team or program requirements.
• Collaborate with colleagues in a call center environment to meet performance metrics and attendance guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned, with specific tasks varying slightly depending on the team or program.

• High School Diploma or GED is required; an Associate degree is preferred.
• Preferred status as a registered pharmacy technician.
• At least one year of call center experience.
• Experience working with management information systems to effectively address customer needs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to consistently show empathy when talking to patients.
• Professional and courteous telephone manner.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.

• Customer service experience in a healthcare or pharmacy-related setting is preferred.
• Medical office experience and knowledge of medical terminology are preferred.
• Pharmacy experience is a plus but not required.
• Medical claims experience is a plus but not required.
• Background in retail pharmacy, prior authorization, and call center operations is advantageous.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining quality.

This role is based in a large specialty pharmacy setting with an initial onsite training schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The permanent schedule runs Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with possible rotating Saturdays once a month and a corresponding weekday off. The position starts as onsite, with the potential for a hybrid schedule after approximately 90 to 120 days, contingent on meeting performance metrics and attendance guidelines. Work is performed in a call center environment using management information systems, medical claims tools, and standard Microsoft applications. The role is offered as a temporary-to-permanent opportunity for individuals who consistently meet established metrics and attendance policies, providing a structured, professional setting focused on patient support and operational efficiency.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cary, NC.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

This is a hybrid position in Cary,NC.
