Department Bio - The Institute for International Economic Policy serves as a catalyst for high-quality, nonpartisan, multidisciplinary research on policy issues surrounding the global economy. IIEP connects a network of 60+ interdisciplinary faculty and visiting scholars with students, policymakers, private-sector leaders, and 30+ Executive Circle ESIA Alumni. The Institute advances GW's engagement in the global economic arena through research, events, conferences, and external partnerships, including deep ties with the World Bank. IIEP also supports student professional development through paid research assistantships, staff positions, fellowships, and networking opportunities.

Position Specific Summary - Communications Assistant I will support IIEP's digital communications, marketing, and public engagement efforts. This role is intended for students with creative, detail-oriented, strong writers, and interested in learning how a research institute communicates its work to broader audiences. Responsibilities include drafting social media posts, event promotions, newsletters, website updates, faculty features, and other digital materials. Assistants attend events, interview faculty, take photos or short videos, create graphics, and help maintain IIEP's website and social media. Successful candidates will be highly detail-oriented, strong writers, creative, audience-aware, and comfortable learning new digital tools. Because this role involves communicating about IIEP's research and programming, candidates should have a strong interest in international affairs, economics, economic policy, or related areas, and should be able to make academic and policy content clear, accurate, and accessible to broader audiences.

Standard Position Description - The student will provide basic support with print, web, social media, and/or other digital content. Tasks may include: posting and updating website pages and social media accounts; create written communications and/or newsletters, assist with graphic and/or video editing. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental/faculty needs.

Required Qualifications - This is an entry level position, little to no experience required, all training will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications - Preferred candidates will have strong writing skills, excellent attention to detail, experience with Canva or other design tools, and interest in international affairs, economics, or policy. Photography, videography, social media, website, or email marketing experience is valuable.
