Job Description and Duties Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel and Chief Counsel for the Division of Recycling, the Attorney III will prepare cases and advise and represent the Department in complex administrative actions, including hearings and settlement negotiations. The Attorney III will act as liaison between the Department and the Attorney General's Office for civil and criminal proceedings. The Attorney III will be responsible for researching and analyzing state and federal case law, statutes, regulations and procedures associated with the Department's programs, especially the Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act and its regulations. The Attorney III will write briefs, accusations, memoranda and correspondence on complex and difficult legal matters, handle requests under the California Public Records Act, and assist with drafting legislative proposals and rulemaking related to the Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act and its regulations. The Attorney III will demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and consistently treat others with courtesy and respect. Beginning July 1st, 2026 it is anticipated the position will be office‑centered and employees will be expected to report to the office at least four days per week.
