Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse / Orthopedic & Neuro Trauma – North Carolina

Start Date: October 26, 2026

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina

Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week. Every other weekend required. Nurse-to-patient ratio 1:5-6. Floating to similar units and alternate care locations as needed.

Highlights:

• Specialized care for orthopedic trauma, neuro trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, and subdural hematomas
• Epic charting experience required; unit also uses Pyxis and SBAR
• Skills include heparin drips, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, and wound management
• 28 hours of orientation (12-hour unit orientation plus 16-hour organizational education)
• Support from interdisciplinary teams including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, lift teams, rapid response teams, and pharmacy
• First-time travelers accepted; local candidates welcome

Requirements:

• Active RN license (North Carolina or Compact license)
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in the last 5 years
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Epic documentation experience required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
• Comfortable managing 1:5-6 patient ratios
• Proficiency in heparin drips, PCA, colostomy care, feeding tube management, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts, dysrhythmia management, oxygen protocol management, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, traumatic brain injury care, orthopedic trauma, surgical drains, chest tubes, tracheostomy management, and advanced wound care
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

• Daily census: 32 patients
• Patient age group: Adults
• Navy scrubs required
• Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8-10 hours, non-billable)
• Up to 7 days of pre-approved time off available (no holidays during first week; must work 2 of 3 major holidays)
