Assembly Mechanic – Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is hiring an Assembly Mechanic to support the Weapons Team in Saint Charles, MO. The primary responsibility of this role is to assemble, install, and test structural components and systems according to engineering specifications and industry standards. Position Responsibilities Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine assembly requirements for structural components. Assemble structural components—including beams, frames, panels, brackets, and other elements—using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments. Perform precision assemblies and set up ream fixtures to drill, ream, countersink, spot face, hone, and bore for major assemblies. Install press‑fit and force‑fit bushings, file, fit, hone, ream, drill, tap, saw, burr, and adjust as necessary. Assemble production aircraft and spacecraft parts, install aircraft equipment, support equipment or power plant equipment, and ensure proper alignment and connection. Test assembled structural systems to verify functionality, safety, and quality compliance. Use jigs and fixtures to drill, ream, countersink, dimpling, fasten, file, fill, fit, align, trim, shim, and remove surface defects. Perform skilled operations such as shimming, fitting, trimming, aligning, realigning or replacing ribs, bulkheads, stringers, and correcting surface defects. Troubleshoot and repair structural malfunctions or defects in assembled systems. Collaborate with engineers and team members to identify and resolve design or assembly issues. Maintain accurate records of assembly activities, component inventory, work orders, and test results. Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area. Physical Demands Limited (0–1 h) crawling, lying down (back, front, side), forceful grasping; occasional (1–3 h) lifting, pushing, pulling, and supporting up to 35lbs; bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, squatting, reaching; frequent (3–6 h) exposure to noise, hazardous chemicals, moving parts, and high or exposed places. Frequent standing, reaching, handling, turning, and working on elevated or uneven surfaces. Use of PPE including eye, hearing, face protection, and required PPE for face/eyes and ears. Position is 100% onsite with work on ladders, elevated surfaces, and occasional climbing or balancing. Shift and Location This position is 100% onsite in Saint Charles, MO. Candidates must be able to work any shift as assigned, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Qualifications Basic Qualifications Experience with sheet metal assemblies, drilling, countersinking, riveting, and fastener installation. Experience in electrical assembly installation. Experience in assembly or mechanical work. Experience using hand tools and/or hand‑held power tools. Preferred Qualifications ClassA CDL with Air Brake Endorsement. Additional Requirements Successful candidates must complete a Conflict of Interest assessment and satisfy Boeing’s Drug‑Free Workplace testing requirements for marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, PCP, and alcohol when applicable. Compensation & Benefits The role is hourly, governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining Agreement, with a pay range of $24.00 to $51.27 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
