Job Description SUE Tech III – Remote optional; can be based at any of our offices in Mooresville, Raleigh, or Charlotte, NC. This role supports the Southeast Region Geospatial/Surveying Team. Opportunity The successful candidate will join a team conducting subsurface utility engineering (SUE) of all levels. Responsibilities Assist with development and maintenance of site safety plans Create a culture of safety, observing and complying with all company and related safety rules Lead SUE field crew in day‑to‑day operations, including utility locating, vacuum excavation, and data collection Mentor junior staff, training on utility location and vacuum excavation Ensure assigned SUE field project tasks and data collection are quality, accurate, and thorough Communicate with office staff on project progress, equipment needs, and project requirements Engage occasionally with client personnel to schedule and coordinate project activities Work with utility owners to obtain as‑built or schematic records as needed Complete assigned projects in the field on schedule and under budgetCollaborate with office crew to create accurate and complete deliverables Stay current with latest SUE and surveying knowledge, techniques, and practices Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies Assist project managers with estimates for project budgets Requirements High school diploma or GED 5+ years of progressive experience in the SUE industry desired Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team Analytical, detail‑oriented, goal‑driven, problem‑solving, self‑lead Excellent communication skills Proficiency with EM and GPR locating equipment Proficiency in reading utility as‑built/schematic records Working knowledge of survey equipment (conventional and GPS) Ability to operate vacuum excavation equipment Ability to traverse terrain, as project dictates, in all seasons Ability to lift up to 100 lb or work as a team to do so Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screening Will work occasional overtime as project timeline dictates Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements Benefits WSP provides a flexible and agile workplace model while meeting client needs.
