Role Description The Funeral Director & Embalmer is a full-time, on-site role based in Candler, Canton, and Waynesville, NC. This role is responsible for meeting with families to plan and coordinate funeral, memorial, and cremation services, including arranging visitations, services, burials, and related logistics. Day-to-day tasks include preparing and embalming decedents, overseeing proper care and presentation, and ensuring compliance with all legal, health, and safety regulations. The position also involves managing documentation, permits, and records, coordinating with clergy, cemeteries, and other service providers, and providing clear communication and guidance to families throughout the process. The Funeral Director & Embalmer supports the overall operations of the funeral home, including occasional administrative duties and participation in on-call rotation as needed. Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency in embalming and preparation of decedents, with adherence to health, safety, and regulatory standards. Experience in funeral home operations and service planning, including coordinating visitations, ceremonies, and cremation or burial arrangements. Strong family services skills, including providing empathetic support, guidance, and follow-up to individuals and families during times of loss. Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with people from diverse backgrounds. Valid Funeral Director and Embalmer license (or ability to obtain) in the state of North Carolina. Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations, documentation requirements, and ethical standards in funeral service. Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain confidentiality, and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
