Director OF Business Development

Director, Business Development – United States Aecon delivers complex infrastructure projects across the United States. This role will lead growth in the heavy civil sector, including bridges, highways, transit systems, and water infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute the U.S. market growth strategy targeting priority sectors. Identify, shape, and pursue major infrastructure opportunities, focusing on $300M–$2B+ projects. Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, competitive threats, and regulatory shifts. Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities. Identify, evaluate, and negotiate strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and alliances. Coordinate with marketing, estimating, legal, operations, and engineering teams to ensure cohesive pursuit strategies and project delivery alignment. Oversee capture planning for major pursuits, including win strategies, competitive positioning, and client engagement plans. Represent Aecon at high-level industry forums, government briefings, and stakeholder meetings to elevate brand presence and influence. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field (MBA preferred). Minimum 12 years of progressive business development experience in heavy civil infrastructure. Ability to translate market insights into actionable growth strategies and measurable outcomes. Deep understanding of capital markets, project finance, and commercial structuring in large-scale infrastructure projects. Professional representation at the highest levels with credibility and strategic insight. Extensive network and experience in the U.S. infrastructure market. Demonstrated experience successfully managing the competing objectives of many external and internal stakeholders. Comfortable dealing with uncertainty, changing, and multiple priorities. Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Willingness to travel across the U.S. and to Canada as required. Experience in alternative delivery model projects.
