Administrator of Public Safety Livonia Public Schools is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and highly qualified Administrator of Public Safety to lead and enhance the District's comprehensive school safety and security initiatives. Working closely with District leadership, the Administrator of Public Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving policies, procedures, emergency preparedness plans, and best practices that promote safe, secure, and welcoming learning and working environments for all students, staff, and visitors. The Administrator of Public Safety serves as a key member of the District's administrative leadership team (ALT), fostering strong partnerships with school administrators, local public safety agencies, and community stakeholders to support prevention, preparedness, response, and after‑action efforts. In collaboration with the Human Resources Department, the Administrator also conducts and supports internal investigations, ensuring they are carried out professionally, thoroughly, and in accordance with District policies and applicable laws. District Overview Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,850 staff members, serving approximately 13,100 pre‑K postsecondary students. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. The annual budget for the Livonia Public Schools is in excess of $190 million, with state funding of $10,300 per pupil. Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and best practices related to school safety, security, emergency management, and public safety. Successful experience in school safety, law enforcement, emergency management, public safety administration, or a closely related field. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive safety and security programs, policies, procedures, and emergency response plans. Knowledge of applicable legal requirements, investigative practices, and ethical standards governing public education and public safety. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion. Ability to analyze information, maintain accurate and confidential records, prepare comprehensive reports, and make sound, data‑informed recommendations. Proven leadership skills, including the ability to effectively supervise, organize, and coordinate personnel, programs, and resources. Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with District administrators, staff, students, families, public safety agencies, and community partners. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, including delivering presentations to staff, community groups, district leadership team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other technology platforms necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and non‑business hours, as needed to support District operations and respond to emergencies. Major Functions and Responsibilities Demonstrate a commitment to the District's Shared Vision and Collective Commitments. Serve as the District's lead administrator for school safety, security, emergency preparedness, and public safety initiatives, fostering a safe, secure, and welcoming learning and working environment for all students, staff, and visitors. Collaborate closely with the Superintendent, District Cabinet, Administrative Leadership Team (ALT), Director of Human Resources, and building administrators to develop and implement comprehensive safety and security strategies. Maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all personnel, investigative, and safety‑related matters. Develop, implement, monitor, and annually review the District's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), Crisis Response protocols, and related emergency management procedures for all District facilities and programs, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local requirements and recognized best practices. Lead districtwide emergency preparedness efforts, including planning, training, tabletop exercises, drills, and after‑action reviews designed to strengthen organizational readiness and continuous improvement. Plan, develop, and deliver professional learning for administrators, staff, and other stakeholders on school safety, emergency response, crisis management, threat prevention, and security procedures. Provide consultation, guidance, and technical assistance to school administrators regarding safety, security, emergency response, student discipline matters, and crisis situations. Serve as chairperson of the District Safety Committee and the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Committee, coordinating initiatives that promote prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. Conduct or coordinate internal investigations involving employee misconduct, policy violations, and other personnel matters in collaboration with Human Resources, preparing thorough documentation and investigative reports. Conduct investigations related to serious student misconduct in partnership with school and District administrators, as appropriate. Serve as a member of the District's Title IX investigative team, conducting investigations in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and District procedures. Coordinate with the Information Technology Department to oversee District video surveillance systems, including the secure preservation and management of video evidence when necessary. Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, school safety personnel, and other community partners to support coordinated emergency planning and response. Oversee the administration and compliance of criminal history background check processes, including the ICHAT database, fingerprinting requirements, and Law Enforcement Information Network Agency Security Officer (LASO) responsibilities. Maintain current knowledge of emerging trends, legislation, and best practices in school safety, emergency management, investigations, and public safety through ongoing professional learning. Prepare reports, recommendations, and presentations related to school safety, security, compliance, investigations, and emergency preparedness for District leadership and the Board of Education, as requested. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or designee. The following perks of employment are available to you: Medical insurance, including prescription drug coverage: The district's contribution is the maximum allowed by Michigan law. Family coverage eligibility for employees working 30 hours or more per week. Single coverage eligibility for employees working 20 hours but less than 30 per week. Optional "cash in lieu" of medical insurance for those who qualify. Dental, vision, and life insurance: The district pays 100% of the premium for all employees. Long‑term disability coverage: The district pays 100% of the premium for employees working 20 hours or more per week. Employee Assistance Program for employees and their eligible family members. This includes a completely confidential, short‑term counseling service that utilizes a practical approach toward problem resolution and is available 7 days a week, with no cost to the employee. Paid holidays; earned vacation, sick, and bereavement days. Longevity pay. Paid "act of God" days, such as snow days. Additionally, the children of employees working 20+ hours, living outside the district's attendance boundaries, are eligible to attend Livonia Public Schools via schools of choice. Conditions of Employment The work year will consist of 200 workdays, which include all student days of instruction, as well as days prior to and following the school year as determined by the Superintendent. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
