Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year minimum License: Not required for submission Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Strong neuro experience Description: The unit has 22 private beds. Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6. Common diagnoses include infections such as endocarditis, abscesses, septic arthritis, sepsis, osteomyelitis, and diabetic foot infections. Many patients may have underlying substance use histories. Registered Nurses are required to work in a setting where patients may be actively using or withdrawing from substances. Managing complex behaviors related to substance use is part of the role. Titration of drips is conducted only by physician's orders in a step-down setting. There may be protocols for certain titration that will be discussed during orientation. Charge nurses may have between 2 to 4 patients. There are Certified Assistants available, with a ratio ranging from 1:7 to 1:22. Certified Assistants will assist with vital signs, fingersticks, and activities of daily living. Cardiac monitoring is done using portable telemetry packs. Nurses do not read or interpret cardiac strips. There is standard documentation for job-specific orientation, department orientation, and POCT validations. Candidates should be comfortable managing challenging or escalating situations related to substance use.
