FGCC - AmeriCorps Reduced Half Time Member (Term Limited) - Costilla County, CO Location: 29477 CO-159, Fort Garland, CO 81133, USA Type: Part Time (Average 15hrs per week, flexible, may include evenings/weekends) Position Summary The AmeriCorps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working under the Education Coordinator. Primary focus: support and deliver educational programming to K‑12 students, emphasizing equitable access to culturally relevant history education. Duties include facilitating Hands‑on History programs, field trips, classroom visits, adult education, community events, and outreach as needed. Terms of Service Location: Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center. Service term: September 8, 2026 – August 20, 2027. Hours: Avg 15 hrs/week; total minimum 675 hours; flexible, may include evenings/weekends. Orientation: Mandatory September 8‑9, 2026 at History Colorado Museum in Denver. Major Responsibilities and Duties Plan and facilitate Hands‑on History programming, field trips, classroom visits, and other educational activities, tailoring content to be culturally relevant and aligned with academic standards. Create and teach lesson plans for Hands‑on History classes aligned with our Hands‑on History pillars. Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact. Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement of educational programming. Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiative projects as needed. Service Term Overview Fall (Sept 11–Dec 4): Support Fifth Day Programming every Friday (except Nov 27 for Thanksgiving Break). Winter Break (Dec 28–31): Assist with Winter Break Camp. Spring (Jan 29–Apr 23): Facilitate Fifth Day Programming every Friday. Spring Break (Mar 15–19): Assist with Hands‑on History Spring Break Camp. Summer (May 31–June 25 & July 5–23): Support Hands‑on History Summer Camp, including facilitation and cleanup. Benefits A total living allowance up to $13,500 (pre‑tax).
