Job Title: Printer Operator Job Description

The Printer Operator sets up, operates, and monitors printing equipment on a 3rd shift schedule to produce high-quality products that meet customer specifications and company quality standards. This role requires mechanical aptitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and adjust equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Read job specifications and obtain all required tooling and materials before starting each production run.

• Set up printing equipment to meet job orders and specifications, including adjustments for materials, settings, and tooling.

• Conduct ongoing visual inspections of machines for leaks, loose belts, and other issues, following established checklists.

• Troubleshoot printing equipment and make timely adjustments to ensure consistent print quality and equipment performance.

• Perform regular checks to verify compliance with customer specifications and internal quality standards.

• Identify equipment malfunctions, material issues, safety concerns, and quality problems, and promptly report them to supervisory personnel.

• Accurately complete production records and quality control worksheets for each job and shift.

• Perform line clearance procedures when changing products to ensure proper separation and prevent mix-ups.

• Carry out clearance procedures during shift changeovers to maintain continuity and accuracy of production.

• Follow all company personnel policies, safety rules, and Good Manufacturing Practices at all times.

• Observe machine operations and verify that machined workpieces conform to specifications using appropriate measuring tools.

• Use calipers, tape measures, and other hand tools to inspect and verify dimensions and quality of printed and machined parts.

• Support special projects and assignments as directed by supervisory personnel.

• Work effectively in a lean manufacturing environment, contributing to continuous improvement and waste reduction.

• Assist with or operate related equipment such as press brakes, punch presses, and inserter machines as needed.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with company standards.

• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work, share issues, and ensure smooth production flow.

• Perform other duties as assigned to support production and overall plant operations.

Essential Skills

• Experience in production, printing, or manufacturing environments, with at least 6+ months of printing or manufacturing experience or completion of 1 year of a college technical certificate program.

• Proven ability to operate machines and production equipment, including printing equipment and related machinery.

• Mechanical aptitude and ability to be mechanically inclined, with comfort using tools and adjusting equipment.

• Ability to read and interpret job specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, and basic blueprints.

• Skill in using calipers, tape measures, hand tools, and other basic inspection tools.

• Detail-oriented approach with strong focus on accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.

• Strong analytical and mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry in daily work.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write simple correspondence and present information in one-on-one and small group settings.

• Problem-solving skills with the ability to participate in individual and group facilitation.

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.

• Capability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Ability to work 3rd shift (7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) on a 12-hour, 4x2 rotating schedule, including every other weekend.

• Commitment to following safety policies, Good Manufacturing Practices, and quality procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Completion of 1 year of a college technical certificate program or equivalent technical education is preferred.

• Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment is a strong plus.

• Previous tube manufacturing experience is considered a positive attribute.

• Experience operating inserter machines, press brakes, punch presses, or similar production equipment.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing setting.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate documentation and records.

• Willingness to support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute ideas for process enhancements.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility with a moderate noise level. The position follows a 3rd shift schedule from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on a 12-hour, 4x2 rotating schedule, which includes working every other weekend. Employees work around production and printing machinery and use tools such as calipers, tape measures, and various hand tools. This is a Contract position based out of Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
