Boston Whaler Laminator I

Position Overview As part of the talented Boston Whaler team, a fiberglass laminator creates components for boats by applying fiberglass to a mold. The laminator ensures that all areas of the mold are covered with a sufficient amount of resin‑saturated fiberglass matting to provide the desired strength of the finished component. The laminator uses a chop gun or hands to press the resin‑saturated matting into the mold, removes air bubbles and pockets, and subsequently removes the cured product. When working with a 2‑part mold, the laminator strategically places spacing blocks and inserts one mold into the other. Mixing resins and storing materials are also included in this position. Essential Functions Ensure required parts and raw materials are ready to run on schedule. Arrange material in a specified order or pattern per documentation. Spray fiberglass and/or lay sheets of fiberglass on part molds. Press fibers into place and use a roller to smooth wrinkles or voids. Use fiberglass chop guns and hand tools. Handle, install, position, and manipulate material with hands, arms, and rollers. Use mil gauge for gel coats and fiberglass to apply the correct amount of material. Maintain a clean, tidy working area and storage. Participate in continuous improvement and cost‑saving initiatives. Participate in EH&S and Quality initiatives. Operate material‑handling equipment such as platform trucks, forklifts, aerial work platforms, pallet jacks, overhead hoists. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including respirators, gloves, chemical‑resistant aprons and suits. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED; or 1+ years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to read, hear, interpret, and understand written and verbal instructions and exchange accurate information with others. Preferred Qualifications Proactive team player with a self‑starter attitude and constant attention to improvement. Excellent reasoning skills, including researching system discrepancies and kitting errors. Basic reading comprehension and writing skills; capable of working from verbal and written instructions; able to use computer terminals and complete routine paperwork. Highly focused, organized with high attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to handle multiple priorities and people. High level of energy, creative thinking, and problem‑solving abilities. Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word). Familiarity with Materials Resource Planning (MRP) software and systems. Marine experience preferred but not required. Familiarity with modern warehousing practices and methods. Comfortable working in a non‑climate controlled shop floor environment. Acceptance of frequent exposure to high temperatures, hot and humid conditions, moderate noise with occasional spikes, and moving mechanical parts, resins, fiberglass dust, epoxy, composites, and chemicals. Ability to regularly bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, reach, climb, and lift or move up to 35 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Working Conditions Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level usually moderate. Pay and Benefits The anticipated pay range for this position is $18.59 to $28.30 per hour, varying with experience and location.
