Operational Specialist

The Operations Specialist – DTC Settlements is responsible for processing and settling securities trades through the Depository Trust Company (DTC). This role supports daily trade settlement activities, reconciliations, client communications, and exception management while ensuring accuracy, minimizing operational risk, and meeting strict settlement deadlines. Key Responsibilities Trade Processing & Settlement Process deliver and receive orders settling through DTC for custody accounts. Settle equity, corporate fixed income, and commercial paper trades with brokers and banks. Ensure all trades are processed accurately and within daily settlement deadlines. Verify trade details against broker presentations received through the Sonic system, including: Account numbers Quantities CUSIPs Settlement instructions Monitor and manage daily trade volumes. Reconcile trade information and resolve discrepancies. Investigate and resolve DTC reclaims and other settlement exceptions. Escalate high-value or high-risk settlement issues to management. Identify, investigate, and resolve operational problems to minimize settlement risk. Client & Counterparty Communication Communicate professionally with internal teams, external clients, brokers, banks, and counterparties. Resolve trade settlement issues through phone and email correspondence. Provide timely updates on outstanding settlement items. Deliver a high level of client service while maintaining strong working relationships. Reporting & Process Improvement Contribute to management reporting, including daily work volume and productivity metrics. Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and workflow processes. Participate in department and firm-wide process improvement initiatives. Develop an understanding of how trade settlement activities impact the broader organization. Required Skills & Qualifications Operations Experience Experience processing securities settlements through DTC (Depository Trust Company) . Knowledge of equity, corporate fixed income, and commercial paper trade processing. Experience with trade reconciliation and exception management. Familiarity with custody operations and settlement workflows. Experience using trade processing platforms such as Sonic or similar systems is preferred. Technical Skills Strong PC and Microsoft Office skills. Ability to accurately review trade details, CUSIPs, account information, and settlement instructions. Ability to prepare operational reports and track work volumes. Professional Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to identify, investigate, escalate, and resolve problems. Strong time management and prioritization skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
