City Planner 2 (General)

Overview: This role involves planning work at a full performance level in a specialized area. Duties include conducting detailed research and analysis, developing planning recommendations, and overseeing complex large or small city‑planning projects while exercising independent judgment under the supervision of a higher‑level city planner. Responsibilities Conduct detailed research and analysis related to city planning. Develop and present planning recommendations. Plan and manage complex large projects or smaller self‑contained projects. Exercise a high degree of independent judgment while working under general supervision. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in a planning‑related field (e.g., city planning, community planning, urban planning, transportation planning, environmental design, architecture, landscape architecture, etc.) or a higher degree. Experience: At least two years of technical city‑planning experience in the area of assignment, or at least two years of community‑engagement experience in strategic development, project management, or facilitation for underrepresented or underdeveloped communities. Advanced Training: A two‑year master’s degree in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, or any planning‑related field satisfies the unit specialty or general specialty requirements. Certification: American Institute of Certified Planners certification meets both education and experience requirements. Physical & Medical: Ability to physically perform the duties and work in the environmental conditions required for this position.
