Build the FP&A Function From the Ground Up

Great River Group (GRG) is looking for an FP&A Manager to help build the finance capability across a growing platform of engineering consulting companies.

This is a true 0-to-1 opportunity . You won't be stepping into an established FP&A function with existing processes and reporting already in place. You'll get into the data, understand how the individual businesses operate, and build the reporting, forecasting, and financial infrastructure needed to create a clear consolidated view across the organization.

We're especially interested in candidates with experience in Transaction Advisory Services (TAS), Quality of Earnings (QoE), financial due diligence, or similarly analytical finance environments who are comfortable digging into imperfect data and figuring out the story behind the numbers.

What You'll Do

• Build the FP&A reporting and forecasting infrastructure across multiple operating companies
• Aggregate financial and operational data into a consolidated holding-company view
• Build and maintain P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, KPI, budgeting, and forecasting models
• Dig into variances and data inconsistencies to understand root causes rather than simply reporting the numbers
• Partner with controllers and accounting teams to improve reporting consistency and data integrity
• Help standardize reporting processes, data definitions, and financial workflows across companies
• Identify opportunities to streamline and modernize accounting and reporting processes
• Prepare financial insights, KPIs, forecasts, and recommendations for senior and operating leaders
• Translate financial information into actionable insight that helps leadership make better business decisions
• Build scalable processes and tools as the platform continues to grow

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
• Strong experience in Transaction Advisory Services, Quality of Earnings, financial due diligence, FP&A, or a similarly analytical finance/accounting environment
• Experience working directly with complex, incomplete, or inconsistent financial data
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial close processes
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
• Experience building budgets, forecasts, financial models, and management reporting
• Experience working across multiple entities, business units, or operating companies preferred
• Strong analytical instincts and a natural tendency to trace numbers back to their source
• Ability to communicate financial results and recommendations clearly to senior leadership
• A self-sufficient, hands-on approach and comfort operating in an environment where the processes haven't been built yet

Experience with multi-entity organizations, holding companies, private equity-backed businesses, ERP implementations, Power BI, NetSuite, Acumatica, or similar systems is a plus.

You may be coming from Transaction Advisory Services or Quality of Earnings and looking for an opportunity to move into an operating environment where you can use those analytical skills to help build a business. Or you may already be in FP&A or finance and have experience creating structure where very little existed before.

Either way, you should be comfortable rolling up your sleeves, working through messy data, challenging assumptions respectfully, and personally building the tools and processes the organization needs.

Location & Work Arrangement

This position may be based in a Great River operating company office in one of the following markets:

• Minneapolis, MN

• Detroit, MI

• Birmingham, AL

This is not intended to be a fully remote FP&A role. We believe proximity to the business is important for understanding the numbers, building strong relationships, and becoming a trusted partner to operating leaders.

Approximately 2–3 days of travel per month to other company locations is expected for in-person collaboration, planning, and reporting reviews.

Compensation | Base Salary: Approximately $150,000 annually, plus bonus.

Final compensation will be based on experience and qualifications. Additional bonus details will be discussed during the interview process.
