Educational Qualifications

Master's Degree

Principal, Principal as Instructional Leader, or Mid-Management Certificate

TEXAS-Teacher Evaluation Support System (T-TESS)

TEXAS-Principal Evaluation Support System (T-PESS)

Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) or Instructional Leadership Development (ILD Grandfathered) Certificate

Minimum of five (5) years experience of combined experience as an Assistant Principal or District Coordinator position and above

Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction

The ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

The ability to manage budget and personnel and coordinate campus functions

The ability to explain policy, procedures, and data

Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Prior experience in instructional leadership roles

Other qualifications deemed necessary by the Board of Trustees

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Assumes administrative responsibility and instructional leadership under the supervision of the superintendent, for discipline and the planning, operation, supervision and evaluation of the educational program of the school unit, utilizing to the best possible advantage, employees qualified to perform effectively in the position of which they may be assigned.

Established with the faculty, the goals and objectives of the instructional program in accordance with school policy and procedure, and in keeping with the stated educational philosophy of the school district.

Develops with the faculty, and an organizational pattern which provides for planning and adapting curriculum to the needs of individual children, placing each child in an atmosphere most conducive to learning, and providing an adequate testing, evaluation and guidance program that will meet all accreditation standards.

Provides and maintains an adequate learning resource center, and assists teachers in planning for the appropriate use of the resources in this center to provide the maximum enrichment for the instruction of the individual child.

Organizes and administers a program of extracurricular activities to develop the special interests and abilities of pupils.

Maintains general supervision of the physical education program and certifies eligibility of each participant.

Maintains general supervision of the athletic program and certifies eligibility of each participant.

Prepares all reports required by the Texas Education Agency, and the Superintendent and his staff.

Keeps on file a permanent record of all students who have attended his school and makes their records available to authorized agencies.

Promotes the professional growth of the faculty by cooperating with the instructional department in planning, organizing, and presenting worthwhile in-service.

Submits recommendations to the superintendent concerning assignment, evaluation, promotion, and dismissal of all personnel assigned to the school unit.

Selects and assigns substitute teachers from approved substitute list, and assists in their evaluation.

Provides an organization schedule for pupils and teachers.

Supervises student registrations, maintaining accurate pupil accounting records, including attendance, suspension and expulsion.

Inspects school plant facilities periodically, submitting requisitions for supplies, maintenance and/or improvements as required.

Serves as custodian for all books and property assigned to the school unit, maintaining adequate records on all such properties, establishing procedures to protect from loss or damage, other than by ordinary use of wear, and submitting requisitions for replacement and /or repair as required.

Assumes responsibility for all monies collected, supervising the maintenance of all internal financial records, submitting a monthly statement of school fund accounts to the Assistant Superintendent for Business as required by School Board regulations.

Cooperates with the cafeteria department in providing adequate guidance and supervision and in the administration of the department's program.

Enforces the rules regarding immunizations and communicable diseases, and promotes sound health practices in the school.

Sees that students who arrive at school early during inclement weather have access to a place which is comfortable and safe.

Serves as the superintendent extended into the community served by his attendance area stimulating wholesome personal relations among pupils, parents, teachers, and other staff members, and cooperating with community groups that are seeking similar objectives for children, and encouraging participation in educational programs, P.T.A. groups, youth programs, etc.

Schedules and supervises the administering of standardized tests.

Plans and conducts an orientation program for incoming students in order to assist them in adjustment to the school program.

Promotes and recognizes high standards of scholastic achievement, citizenship, and attendance.

Emphasizes Americanism and patriotism by the proper display of our flags and the observance of special holidays

Helps administer the student teaching program.

Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular business hours to confer with district personnel.

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job responsibility unless instructed to work from home by supervisor.

Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

Distance Learning and Virtual Instruction Duties and Responsibilities In the event of a school closure in response to a disaster, flood, extreme weather condition, fuel curtailment, epidemic, pandemic or other calamity, the following duties and responsibilities will be added to the above listed Major Job Responsibilities and Duties, as directed by the Superintendent.

Usage of personal equipment, including but not limited to personal cellular phone, personal computer, and personal internet service when working from home during a District closure due to government or Board order or during an emergency affecting normal District operations.

Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives.

Working Conditions

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate campus functions; maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Some bending, lifting and stooping while performing job related functions.
