Hospital Medical Center 736 Battlefield Blvd N Chesapeake, VA 23320, USA The Executive Director of Heart and Vascular Services provides overall leadership, direction, and management for the cardiology and cardiac surgery programs, with advisory support from the Heart and Vascular Leadership Council and operational and support services provided by the Duke Heart Network. The Executive Director is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating initiatives related to Quality, Business Development, Finance, and Resources. Recruitment and Business Development a. Create business plans in collaboration with key stakeholders, particularly the: Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Officer Chief Physician Relations Officer Director of Planning and Performance Analytics b. Implement business strategies to enhance market share, taking the lead alongside: Marketing Medical group leaders Senior executives Service Line Management a. Provide effective administrative management for assigned clinical areas on a 24-hour basis by planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care. Lead the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, and related policies and procedures. Ensure clinical and operational effectiveness across all aspects of cardiac, vascular, and cardiac surgical care, while maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements and guidelines. b. Provide all pertinent reports and approvals to the Leadership Council, including: I. Assure the development and implementation of outcomes management and performance targets using a Balanced Scorecard, including patient satisfaction surveys, CV registry performance, agreed-upon clinical indicators, employee satisfaction, and staff retention. II. Prepare an Annual Business and Clinical Plan for review and approval. c. Participate in bi-weekly meetings with Nursing Leadership, as determined by the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Officer, to: I. Ensure conformance with Magnet standards, including unit-based shared governance structures. II. Assist in maintaining competency standards for nursing staff. d. Participate in bi-weekly meetings with the Chief of Cardiac Surgery to: I. Ensure adequate staffing, facilities, and coordination of purchasing in collaboration with the Chief of Supply Chain Management. e. Participate in bi-weekly meetings with the Chief of Cardiology to: I. Ensure adequate staffing, facilities, and coordination of purchasing in collaboration with the Chief of Supply Chain Management. f. Participate in monthly meetings with Medical Directors to: I. Ensure smooth operations, including scheduling and staff education. g. Participate in monthly meetings with the Chief Physician Relations Officer and management team members within the Chesapeake Regional Medical Group to: I. Actively participate in the recruitment and selection of key physicians and paraprofessionals. h. Participate in monthly meetings with the Chief of Human Resources to: I. Direct and coordinate work; select and hire staff; and manage personnel in accordance with CRH Human Resources policies, procedures, and the organization’s Code of Conduct. i. Participate in monthly meetings with the Chief Medical Officer to: I. Prepare necessary information related to the Value Analysis Committee. II. Report any matters regarding Peer Review. III. Foster alignment with the Medical Staff, Quality Department, and Risk Management. j. Develop budgetary recommendations (capital and operating) in collaboration with the CEO, Leadership Council, and Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Officer. Performance Improvement / Quality Oversight a. Ensure service line performance aligns with Peak of Care high-reliability principles, utilizing national registries to identify focus areas and measure improvement. b. Lead and support Heart and Vascular committees and group meetings (excluding Peer Review and related Medical Staff activities). Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Director within Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, or CV Service Line Administration in a tertiary setting. Demonstrated knowledge of operations, finance, and service line expansion. Proven experience building clinical teams committed to a high-reliability organization. MHA, MBA, or related Master’s degree required. Clinical background preferred. Masters or better in Business Administration or related field.
