Based in Toledo, Ohio, our mission is to empower individuals and families to achieve emotional well-being and personal growth through expert mental health services. Our team of Therapists, Counselors, and support staff are committed to client-centered care and community impact.
Position Overview
The Clinical Supervisor is an experienced Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who provides day-to-day clinical leadership and support at assigned behavioral health program sites while maintaining a direct therapy caseload.
This role serves as an on-site clinical resource for therapists and behavioral health staff, providing consultation, guidance, coaching, and support related to clinical practice, treatment planning, documentation, crisis response, client needs, and service delivery. The Clinical Supervisor helps reinforce clinical expectations, identify and address day-to-day program and staff needs, and promote consistent, high-quality clinical practices across assigned sites.
Working closely with Clinical Managers and independently licensed clinical leadership, the Clinical Supervisor supports staff development, clinical quality, documentation compliance, and adherence to agency policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of care. The position plays an active role in the daily success of assigned programs by supporting clinicians, addressing barriers, promoting accountability, and helping ensure clients receive ethical, person-centered, and medically necessary behavioral health services.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Consultation
- Provide clinical guidance, consultation, coaching, and day-to-day support to assigned therapists, counselors, case managers, and other behavioral health staff within the scope of the Clinical Supervisor’s licensure and qualifications.
- Serve as an accessible clinical resource at assigned program sites, helping staff address clinical questions, client needs, documentation concerns, and barriers to effective service delivery.
- Support staff with case conceptualization, assessments, treatment planning, interventions, discharge planning, care coordination, and continuity of care.
- Provide consultation and support regarding complex or high-risk situations, including safety concerns, crisis response, mandated reporting, and appropriate escalation to independently licensed clinical leadership or other designated personnel when necessary.
- Reinforce expectations related to ethical decision-making, professional boundaries, trauma-informed care, cultural responsiveness, person-centered practices, and medically necessary service delivery.
- Facilitate clinical case discussions and team consultations to strengthen clinical judgment, consistency, and quality of care.
Clinical Documentation & Quality
- Review clinical documentation for accuracy, timeliness, medical necessity, internal consistency, and alignment with treatment plans and services provided.
- Provide coaching and feedback to staff regarding documentation quality and assist with timely correction of identified concerns.
- Identify recurring clinical, documentation, or service-quality concerns and communicate trends to the Clinical Manager or appropriate clinical leadership.
- Participate in chart reviews, peer reviews, audits, and quality improvement activities as assigned.
Staff Development & Program Support
- Support the clinical onboarding, orientation, and ongoing development of staff assigned to program sites.
- Provide education and coaching on clinical practice, documentation, treatment planning, interventions, ethics, crisis response, professional communication, time management, and other identified development needs.
- Support initial and ongoing Qualified Mental Health Specialist development and training, as assigned.
- Help reinforce day-to-day clinical expectations, staff accountability, and consistent implementation of agency standards at assigned program sites.
- Identify staff training, resource, or support needs and collaborate with Clinical Managers and clinical leadership to address them.
Compliance, Collaboration & Direct Clinical Care
- Reinforce compliance with applicable Ohio requirements, Medicaid rules, CARF standards, HIPAA, professional ethics, and agency policies.
- Promptly escalate client safety risks, ethical or boundary concerns, significant documentation deficiencies, and potential compliance issues through established reporting channels.
- Collaborate with Clinical Managers, independently licensed clinicians, prescribers, nursing, intake, compliance, and other members of the care team to support coordinated services and continuity of care.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case conferences, care coordination, incident reviews, audits, and corrective action activities as appropriate.
- Maintain an assigned therapy caseload and provide direct clinical services within the scope of the employee’s licensure and qualifications.
- Perform other clinically related duties consistent with the position, qualifications, and needs of the agency.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in social work, counseling, or a related behavioral health field, as required for applicable professional licensure.
- Active, unrestricted Ohio license as an LSW, LPC, LISW, or LPCC.
- Minimum of three years of experience practicing as a licensed clinician (LSW, LPC, LISW, or LPCC), with substantial experience providing direct therapy services.
- Demonstrated readiness to provide clinical guidance, coaching, and day-to-day leadership to behavioral health staff.
- Strong knowledge of clinical documentation, treatment planning, Medicaid requirements, professional ethics, and behavioral health standards.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, coaching, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to recognize and appropriately escalate clinical, safety, or compliance concerns.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and standard workplace technology.
- Must obtain and maintain required First Aid, CPR, and crisis de-escalation certifications within agency-established timeframes.
- Valid Ohio or Michigan driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and access to a properly insured vehicle when travel is required.
