Part-Time Bookkeeper

Silver Lining Jewelry & Loan Inc. has been in business since 1998, with two locations in the Portland Metro area. We are looking for an experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper to handle the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping for our company.

This is not simply a data-entry position. We are looking for someone who understands bookkeeping and accounting, is very comfortable working in QuickBooks , and can maintain accurate books through the preparation of monthly financial statements.

Primary Responsibilities

The Part-Time Bookkeeper will be responsible for:

• Entering all accounts payable into QuickBooks and preparing checks for the owner to review and sign.
• Recording manual checks, automatic deductions, ACH transactions, and other withdrawals from company checking accounts.
• Recording cash transfers between checking accounts and between store locations.
• Entering payroll into QuickBooks and maintaining accurate payroll-related accounting records.
• Recording miscellaneous deposits and other banking transactions.
• Entering monthly recurring expenses and journal entries, including credit card processing fees, insurance, property taxes, dues, depreciation, and similar expenses.
• Recording inventory items that have been deleted or removed from the company's point-of-sale system.
• Maintaining monthly spreadsheets showing sales, interest collected, payouts, and other financial activity.
• Reconciling all company bank accounts each month.
• Preparing and posting adjusting journal entries for pledges receivable, inventory, layaway inventory, and layaway deposits .
• Comparing Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) recorded in QuickBooks with reports generated by the company's point-of-sale system and researching discrepancies.
• Keeping track of the owner's quarterly estimated tax payments and accurately recording those payments.
• Maintaining accurate supporting records for transactions and ensuring the company's QuickBooks records agree with bank and point-of-sale information.
• Preparing monthly Balance Sheets, Profit & Loss Statements, and Cash Flow Statements , including financial statements and information required by the company's bank.
• Working with the owner, management, CPA, and bank as needed to answer questions and provide accurate financial information.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with actual bookkeeping/accounting experience , not simply general office or data-entry experience.

The right candidate should have:

• Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks .
• Previous experience with accounts payable and general ledger bookkeeping.
• Experience performing monthly bank reconciliations.
• An understanding of journal entries and adjusting entries.
• Experience preparing and reviewing Balance Sheets and Profit & Loss Statements.
• An understanding of inventory accounting and Cost of Goods Sold.
• Good working knowledge of Excel and spreadsheets.
• The ability to compare information between multiple systems and identify discrepancies.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• The ability to work independently and keep up with recurring monthly responsibilities and deadlines.
• The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding company, employee, and owner financial information.

Experience working with a business that maintains inventory and multiple locations would be particularly helpful.

Schedule

This is a part-time, in-office position . Aprox 20 hours per month , adjust as needed.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
