Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Cincinnati seeks to hire two (2) outstanding, full-time academic Clinical Chemists. Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions

The primary clinical responsibilities will include directorship of the clinical chemistry and toxicology sections of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center Laboratory; additional participation in point-of-care testing is desirable. The successful applicant will have expertise in test development, method validation, laboratory information systems, and laboratory automation. Mass spectrometry experience is preferred. Additional responsibilities include consultation and collaboration with health professionals and participation in quality improvement and quality assurance activities. Opportunities to be involved with laboratory stewardship are also available.

Contribution to pathology resident education will be expected, including didactic and small group teaching and conference-based teaching. The capability to provide high quality clinical service, work cooperatively and collegially, and use excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others, are required.

Minimum Requirements

Must have all the following prior to effective date of appointment:

• Medical degree (M.D. or equivalent).
• Completion of a three-year Anatomic Pathology, a three-year Clinical Pathology, or a four-year Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency program.
• Completion of 12-month fellowship training or at least 12 months experience in Clinical Chemistry.
• Licensure by the State of Ohio Medical Board.

Or

• A doctoral degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, certified by an HHS-approved board.
• Two (2) years of laboratory training or experience, or both, and experience supervising high complexity testing.

Additional Qualifications Considered

• Board-certification or eligibility in Clinical Chemistry or Clinical Pathology.

• Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
