Adjunct Instructor, English – (2026‑2027) – PTT Under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean and English Program Chairs, the Adjunct Instructor is responsible for instructing students in Composition I, Composition II, Business Communications, and Technical Writing. The instructor will create course‑related materials, utilize various teaching strategies – including Engaged Learning practices – monitor and evaluate student progress, maintain accurate records using the required LMS grade book, and communicate with students. Responsibilities Provide Instruction in Assigned Subject Areas Teach students according to course objectives using a variety of instructional strategies in classroom, online, hybrid, or lab settings appropriate to student needs (lecture, small groups, demonstrations, computer‑assisted instruction). Execute Student Evaluation and Recordkeeping Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate records of attendance, achievement, and progress. Assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment. Maintain Professional Knowledge Continuously improve teaching and subject knowledge through professional development such as conferences, workshops, technical updates, and self‑study. Manage Classes Develop, revise, and maintain classroom policies, grading structures, and strategies. Perform Other Teaching Functions Use the computer as an instructional tool for teaching reading and writing skills and composition. Provide data to assist in preparation of supply and equipment orders, course schedules, book orders, and other reports. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Current knowledge of and ability to teach English composition courses. Skill in relating to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors from diverse backgrounds positively and cooperatively. Ability to develop and incorporate various teaching strategies and computer applications. Proficiency in creating and using appropriate evaluation methods. Strong written, verbal, and phone communication skills. Basic computer proficiency. Physical ability to lift and carry up to fifty pounds, move tables, chairs, and media equipment as needed. Demonstrate capability to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree with at least 18 hours of graduate credit in English. OR Bachelor’s degree in English plus a minimum of 6 graduate credits in English and an approved plan to complete a Master’s degree within two years that includes 18 graduate credits in the subject area. Desired Qualifications Experience teaching online and/or hybrid formats. Experience using technology for remote instruction. Familiarity with Engaged Learning practices.
