Job Title: CNC Mill Machinist

Job Description

This role is based in a rotating equipment repair shop that refurbishes pumps, compressors, and turbines. You will operate CNC milling machines to produce medium to large components to tight tolerances in a variety of metals. The position focuses on setting up, editing, and running CNC mills with Fanuc controls, with the potential to perform manual machining and CNC programming depending on your experience and aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to plan machining operations for medium to large parts.
• Set up and operate CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines using Fanuc controllers.
• Edit CNC programs at the machine to ensure accurate, efficient, and safe machining processes.
• Machine components to tight tolerances on a variety of metals, including exotic materials used in rotating equipment.
• Perform CNC machining work on parts for pumps, turbines, and compressors within a job shop environment.
• Conduct manual machining operations when required, including work on lathes, mills, and horizontal boring machines.
• Carry out CNC programming and G-code edits, and use CAM software such as Mastercam where applicable.
• Assist with line boring operations on a horizontal boring mill as needed.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances using appropriate measuring tools to ensure quality standards are met.
• Collaborate closely with CNC machinists, manual machinists, mechanics, and inspectors to complete projects efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in a busy machine shop environment.
• Adapt to varying workloads and schedules, including extended shifts when projects require additional coverage.

Essential Skills

• At least 7 years of experience as a CNC mill machinist in a job shop or similar environment.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong experience setting up and editing CNC milling machines with Fanuc controllers.
• Hands-on experience machining medium to large parts to tight tolerances.
• Proficiency with vertical and horizontal milling operations.
• Familiarity with machine shop practices, including safe operation of mills, lathes, and related equipment.
• Ability to work with G-code and perform on-machine program edits.
• Comfort working with a variety of metals, including those used in rotating equipment components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience machining components for rotating equipment such as pumps, turbines, and compressors.
• Experience working with exotic metals and understanding their machining characteristics.
• CNC programming experience, including use of Mastercam or similar CAM software.
• Manual machining skills on mills, lathes, and other conventional machines.
• Experience operating a horizontal boring mill, including line boring operations.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team in a job shop environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to unique and complex machining projects.

Work Environment

The role is based across three clean and organized machine shops located within a few blocks of each other. While the facilities are well maintained, they are not climate controlled, and large parts and unique machines require bay doors to be open at times. You will work alongside a mix of CNC machinists, manual machinists, mechanics, and inspectors in a collaborative, hands-on environment. Standard attire includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, work shirt, safety glasses, and other appropriate personal protective equipment. The base schedule is first shift, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with frequent opportunities for overtime. When project volume increases, operations may extend to 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and short-term night shifts from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. may be scheduled for several weeks at a time, providing significant additional hours.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Houston,TX.
