ABOUT THE JOB The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Software Engineer II in the Product and Engineering division of the Technology Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY, San Francisco, CA or Washington DC . This is a hybrid role with in-office requirements of two days per week or eight days per month. The ACLU Technology Department covers both Analytics and Product & Engineering, providing analytics, engineering, product management and product design expertise to advance the ACLU mission. The team emphasizes ethical use of technology, privacy and security standards, data-informed decision making, and high standards for fairness, accountability, and transparency. This position sits on the Product & Engineering team within the Technology Department. The team includes engineers, product managers, product designers, and project operations experts who build and maintain digital products and secure technical systems that accelerate the ACLU’s mission. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU). WHAT YOU'LL DO Reporting to the Director of Engineering , the Software Engineer II (CRM) will support the ACLU’s implementation of Blackbaud CRM, collaborating with other engineers, designers, product roles and end users to support the development, deployment, and maintenance of our cloud-based application. The role ensures the system is scalable, secure, and efficient. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in enterprise CRM software development in cloud environments and automation, and is eager to deepen skills in engagement system customization and contribute to the mission-driven work. YOUR DAY TO DAY Provide Blackbaud CRM technical integration and customization, configuration, and maintenance. Assist in the build and deployment of CRM-related functions and products that affect constituent data within and across the CRM ecosystem. Own specific features or components and implement within established patterns. Assist in code migrations in development environments. Collaborate with fundraising teams to facilitate changes and improvements as needed. Follow team-established best practices and policies relating to software development and code reviews. Work with teams to understand business objectives and refine complex feature requirements; propose solutions and make implementation decisions appropriate to scope and technical maturity. Ensure compliance with privacy and security regulations and ACLU policies that protect consumer data. Ensure documentation and specifications are accurate, clear, and updated, with communication tailored for technical and non-technical stakeholders. Collaborate respectfully to resolve obstacles and conflicts. WHAT YOU'LL BRING Professional experience developing software for full-stack enterprise systems in production environments. Experience customizing and extending large-scale fundraising CRMs or other enterprise data systems. Experience with source control (e.g., Azure Repos, Git) and CI/CD. Experience developing against MS SQL Server (efficient queries, functions, stored procedures). Experience debugging software solutions for performance and reliability. Experience integrating data of varying formats and quality, including third-party APIs. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Familiarity with .NET , C# and JavaScript frameworks. Familiarity with SQL, CSV/JSON processing, ETL, and handling large data volumes. Understanding of RESTful APIs and integration patterns. Understanding of data warehouse design principles (e.g., star schema, dimensional modeling). Knowledge of Blackbaud SDK or prior experience with Blackbaud products is preferred. Knowledge of customizing within fundraising CRMs is preferred. COMPENSATION The ACLU is committed to equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. There is a set salary for this role based on geographic location. The annual salary for this position is $142,694.00 ( Level F ), reflecting a salary for a position based in New York, NY. Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorized to work outside the listed location.
