POSITION OVERVIEW
Heartline Staffing is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager II, Labor & Delivery for a confidential healthcare organization in Santa Clara, California. This senior nursing leadership position is responsible for leading patient care delivery, clinical operations, staffing, quality, safety, regulatory compliance, performance improvement, and financial management within a 24/7 Labor & Delivery environment.

The Nurse Manager II will lead the implementation of evidence-based care models, nursing practice standards, and patient care delivery systems while ensuring safe, consistent, and high-quality care across assigned departments. This role collaborates closely with physicians, nursing clinical practice leaders, healthcare providers, and multidisciplinary teams to support optimal maternal and neonatal outcomes across the continuum of care.

The successful candidate will bring substantial direct patient care experience, progressive nursing leadership experience, strong operational and financial management skills, and the ability to lead complex clinical teams through organizational change, quality improvement, workforce development, and regulatory readiness.

• Lead the implementation of best-practice nursing models, patient care delivery systems, and clinical practice standards.
• Direct nursing services and patient care operations within a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week Labor & Delivery environment.
• Maintain clinical oversight, competency standards, licensure compliance, and appropriate delegation of nursing responsibilities.
• Ensure nursing staff comply with the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and all federal, state, and local requirements.
• Facilitate collaboration with physicians, healthcare providers, clinical leaders, and multidisciplinary team members.
• Monitor staffing and resource needs to ensure appropriate assignment, utilization, and safe patient care coverage.
• Manage the use and maintenance of equipment, supplies, medications, and clinical resources.
• Lead the investigation and resolution of patient, family, and member concerns involving patient care and services.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, employees, visitors, and healthcare providers.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, evaluate, and develop nursing leaders and frontline staff.
• Establish performance expectations and hold direct reports accountable for clinical, operational, and financial outcomes.
• Create professional development opportunities and succession plans for nursing staff and leadership teams.
• Promote collaboration, open communication, employee engagement, and accountability across departments.
• Translate organizational and departmental strategies into operational plans, measurable objectives, and tactical action items.
• Oversee completion of work assignments and identify opportunities to improve quality, safety, service, efficiency, and affordability.
• Manage departmental budgets, payroll, non-payroll expenses, financial commitments, and cost-control initiatives.
• Develop reports, performance dashboards, workflows, and strategies to achieve operational and clinical targets.
• Lead short- and long-term operational initiatives, clinical programs, services, and systems.
• Manage human resources, labor relations, training, performance management, quality, risk, and regulatory readiness activities.
• Lead continuous survey readiness activities, mock rounds, audit preparation, and remediation planning.
• Build strategic partnerships with physicians, subject matter experts, and service-area leaders.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and hold them accountable for clinical, quality, financial, and operational performance.
• Support emergency preparedness planning and ensure staff understand expectations before, during, and after an emergency.
• Lead cross-functional strategic improvement projects focused on quality, safety, service, affordability, and operational efficiency.
• Identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and implement sustainable solutions for operational and clinical concerns.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to support integrated care delivery across the continuum.
• Establish performance metrics tied to strategic organizational priorities.
• Lead continuous improvement of clinical practices, patient safety, staff safety, service quality, and operational performance.
• Perform clinical duties when required to support patient care and departmental operations.

COMPENSATION
• $235,000-$250,000 annual salary

• On-site in Santa Clara, California

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. REQUIRED
• Minimum of five years of direct patient care delivery experience. REQUIRED
• Minimum of five years of experience in business operations, clinical healthcare, or a directly related field. REQUIRED
• Minimum of four years of leadership experience with or without direct reports. REQUIRED
• Active California Registered Nurse license at the time of hire. REQUIRED
• Basic Life Support certification at the time of hire. REQUIRED
• Labor & Delivery, Maternal Child Health, or closely related specialty leadership experience. REQUIRED
• Experience leading nursing services within a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week hospital environment. REQUIRED
• Experience managing clinical operations, staffing, patient safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement. REQUIRED
• Experience recruiting, developing, coaching, evaluating, and managing nursing staff and leaders. REQUIRED
• Experience managing departmental payroll, non-payroll budgets, financial commitments, and cost-control initiatives. REQUIRED
• Knowledge of the California Nursing Practice Act. REQUIRED
• Knowledge of The Joint Commission and applicable federal, state, and local healthcare requirements. REQUIRED
• Experience leading survey readiness, mock rounds, audits, corrective actions, and regulatory remediation activities. REQUIRED
• Experience collaborating with physicians, healthcare providers, senior leaders, and multidisciplinary teams. REQUIRED
• Experience leading quality, safety, service, operational efficiency, or affordability improvement initiatives. REQUIRED
• Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, financial management, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills. REQUIRED

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Progressive Labor & Delivery nursing management experience.
• Maternal Child Health leadership experience.
• Experience managing multiple clinical areas or locations.
• Experience leading large multidisciplinary nursing teams.
• Experience with labor relations in a hospital environment.
• Experience leading emergency preparedness and recovery planning.
• Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
