ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Court Reporters are responsible for providing accurate verbatim reporting of proceedings in all required or requested court hearings, which include civil, criminal, juvenile, and grand jury. Reporters are responsible for providing real-time reporting services to judicial officers, preparing transcripts in accordance with applicable Government Codes, Rules of Court, and Statues, and providing read back upon request.


Various positions available throughout LA County . This position is not eligible for telework opportunities.
SALARY

Full-time: $11,117.91 - $11,423.18 Monthly


Part-time 3/5: $6,540.71 - $6,720.38 Monthly

Daily as needed: $511.17 - $525.20 Full Day

$250.60 - $257.49 Half Day

EXCELLENT TRAINING AND ONBOARDING PROGRAM
  • 2-week training and onboarding program including classroom and on-the-job training. Court reporters learn about the Court's various areas of litigation, transcript preparation, billing procedures, and customer interactions.
  • 90-day real-time reporting acclimation period affording the court reporter the opportunity to work in different areas of litigation and build litigation specific dictionaries.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet the following requirements at the time of application:
  • A current Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) license issued by the Court Reporters Board of California
  • Real-time reporting capability*
  • Computer-aided transcription (CAT) capability
  • Paperless writer equipped with 1 form of removable memory in addition to internal memory -OR- voice writing equipment

* Court Reporters are required to provide real-time reporting to Judicial Officers after an optional 90-day acclimation period.

Note: A valid California Class C driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation is required to carry out job-related essential functions.

EVALUATION: Qualifying evaluation of certification and selection requirements, based upon submitted application materials.

Options Benefit Plan
Benefits may be purchased using a tax-free monthly benefits allowance between $1,127.65 and $2,430.50 for the 2025 plan year (based on number enrolled in medical coverage). If the monthly cost of the benefits selected is less than the monthly allowance, the employee receives the difference as additional taxable pay, up to a maximum of $244.00. The Options plan includes a robust range of insurance options, including medical, dental, disability, life, and AD&D insurance.



Flexible Spending Accounts
Employees may contribute up to $266 per month into a tax-free Health Care Spending Account and up to $400 per month tax-free into a Dependent Care Spending Account. The Court contributes up to $375 per month to the Dependent Care Spending Account.



Leave Benefits
Vacation - All permanent and other designated categories of employees are eligible to earn paid vacation based on years of service. Vacation time may not be used during the first 6 months of employment.


Sick leave - Depending on the length of service and employment categories, up to one day of full pay per month of service is accrued monthly for qualifying service.


Holidays - 14 days per year.

Retirement
Deferred Compensation Plan (457) - Optional tax-deferred supplemental retirement plan that includes a County match of up to 4% of employee's salary.


Retirement Pension Plan administered by the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA).


If the candidate is a "new member" of the County's defined benefit plan (LACERA) on or after January 1, 2013, that person's pension will be limited under the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act (PEPRA). For these purposes, a "new member" is someone who first becomes a member of LACERA on or after January 1, 2013 - that is, someone first employed by the County on or after December 1, 2012 - unless she or he established reciprocity with another public retirement system in which she or he was a member before January 1, 2013. Employee Assistance Program (EAP)


Tuition Reimbursement - The Tuition Reimbursement Program provides eligible employees with tuition assistance (maximum $2000 per fiscal year) for courses toward a degree program at an accredited college and/or university. The program is intended to support the ongoing development of a highly effective workforce at the Court.
