Automotive Service Manager

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Shop Operations Employees Supervised: 1 to 15 FLSA Status: Exempt Summary The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the superior service and the effective operation of the Exotics Racing high-performance automotive shop; responsible for ensuring that Exotics Racing operates under safe conditions according to the established policies and procedures and in full compliance with federal and state regulations; works closely with associated personnel to ensure the Exotics Racing shop is organized and operating at optimal efficiency; maintains the safety and productivity of the vehicles, equipment by supervising and coordinating the activities of the maintenance team personnel. The Maintenance Manager is expected to develop and provide inspirational leadership and direction to a team of automotive-technicians. Essential Job Functions Ensure corrective maintenance is performed safely, effectively, and expeditiously in order to avoid unnecessary downtime of vehicles. Provide technical assistance to the automotive team throughout the repair process in both a hands-on and managerial capacity. Consult with maintenance technicians throughout all phases of repairs regarding progress; maintain appropriate documentation on those communications using the computer reporting system(s). Develop, implement, or evaluate maintenance policies and procedures. Oversee (and personally comply with) the local implementation of Exotics maintenance and safety standard operating procedures in the shop. Oversee and participate in the work needed to implement preventive maintenance for the vehicles. Quality check completed jobs and assess work flow to ensure a high level of efficiency. Direct the activities of and provide guidance to maintenance team personnel. Assess training for maintenance team personnel. Close work orders and ensure all parts and labor are accurately charged and billed out. Ensure that work areas are kept clean. Train, motivate, counsel and monitor the performance of the shop personnel. Other duties as assigned. May be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable; may be exposed to hazardous equipment and/or hazardous conditions requiring the need to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hard hats; may require working in very hot or very cold temperatures; may require working under covered structure with roof but no walls; requires working outdoors exposed to all weather conditions. Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials; using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things; repeating the same physical activities or mental activities over and over, without stopping. Requires contact with others (face-to-face, by telephone or otherwise). Qualifications Experience and Education Must possess High school diploma or GED equivalent Twoyears of supervisory experience; At least 5 years of high-performance automotive shop management experience Racing mechanic experience preferred Skills Basic Skills: Active learning, active listening, critical thinking, basic math to include adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, reading comprehension, speaking, writing. Must possess strong attention to detail. Problem Solving Skills: Complex problem solving; using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Systems Skills: Judgment and decision making, social perceptiveness. Resource Management Skills: Time management. Desktop Computer Skills: Spreadsheets, presentations, internet navigation, word processing. Knowledge Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus. Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Public Safety and Security — Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. Tools: Calculators, desktop computers, scanners, copiers, fax and phone systems. Technology: Intermediate skills with Microsoft Windows and Office environment (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and standard office equipment. Analytical or scientific software, Database user interface and query software, Route navigation software. Other: Comprehensive knowledge and experience with the performance of exotics cars and racing.
