Level 1 RN - Psychiatric Emergency Room

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Weekend Blocked, Day/Night rotational position, with holiday, on-call, and callback requirements per unit needs.

Job Description

The Level 1 RN in the Psychiatric Emergency Room conducts intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives, plans and provides nursing care, and makes nursing diagnoses of patients' medical and emotional statuses. The RN will collaborate with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff to design appropriate treatment plans and administer psychotropic medications while monitoring patient reactions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments and gather case history through patient and relative interviews.
• Plan and provide nursing care for patients with psychiatric conditions.
• Make nursing diagnoses regarding medical and emotional statuses.
• Consult with psychiatrists and support staff to create treatment plans.
• Administer and monitor reactions to psychotropic drugs and medications.
• Arrange further medical attention when necessary.
• Assist patients in understanding emotional disturbances and the need for treatment.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and patients.
• Test vital signs and ensure the treatment of pain.
• Document all patient information accurately and maintain confidentiality.
• Perform administrative tasks, including filing and computer documentation.
• Provide high-quality service to patients and the public.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Active RN License in New York (NY License ONLY)
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association ONLY)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.
• Telemetry experience is required.
