Accounting Specialist

Job Details: Job Location: Westchester Country Day School - High Point, NC 27265, Position Type: Part Time, Job Category: Accounting, Accounting Specialist (Part-Time Accountant) Westchester Country Day School is seeking an experienced Part-Time Accountant to support the school's financial operations. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Director of Finance, this position will play an important role in financial reporting, account reconciliation, and audit preparation. As the school enters a new capital campaign, the position will also assist with the tracking of pledges, contributions, and restricted gifts. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional seeking meaningful, flexible work. Primary responsibilities include: Preparing monthly financial statements, including the Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, budget/YTD-to-actual reports, and accounts receivable reports. Performing general accounting and bookkeeping functions, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and account reconciliations. Reconciling bank and other balance-sheet accounts and researching discrepancies. Maintaining accurate accounting for restricted and unrestricted gifts. Assisting with tracking and accounting for capital campaign pledges, pledge receivables, donor restrictions, and releases from restriction. Providing significant support for the school's annual summer financial audit. Providing tax-related accounting support and working with outside tax professionals as needed. Additional responsibilities may include: Assisting with Indexed Tuition/financial aid calculations and financial review during the school's annual financial aid process. Assisting with state scholarship program reporting and reconciliation. Assisting with fixed-asset and depreciation schedules and other year-end accounting adjustments. Qualifications While we do not expect every candidate to have experience in all areas, experience with nonprofit accounting and fund accounting is strongly preferred. The school uses Veracross for bookkeeping. Experience in the independent school world is a plus. CPA licensure is not required, but is also strongly preferred. Qualifications: Accounting degree Bookeeping experience CPA licensure preferred Veracross experience preferred The position is expected to average approximately 20 hours per month, with hours varying based on the school's accounting cycle. Additional hours will be required during the summer for fiscal year-end duties.
