Registered Nurse - Gynecology, Maternity and Fertility Care Coordinator

Summary The Gynecology, Maternity and Fertility Care Coordinator Registered Nurse serves as a clinical care manager and patient advocate for Veterans receiving gynecology, maternity, reproductive, infertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and newborn-related healthcare services. The RN coordinates care across VA and community providers, ensuring Veterans receive timely, high-quality, patient-centered services while maintaining continuity of care throughout the reproductive health journey. Learn more about this agency Duties Help The coordinator provides education, case management, care coordination, and resource navigation while promoting positive maternal and infant health outcomes. This position requires flexibility, additional duties as assigned to support women's clinic/health such as onsite clinic coverage, triage, mammography, gynecology, and primary care (PACT) coverage/support/care coordination. Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate comprehensive gynecology, maternity, reproductive, and fertility care services for Veterans receiving care through VA and community providers.
- Serve as the primary clinical point of contact for Veterans throughout preconception, infertility treatment, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify healthcare needs, psychosocial concerns, and potential barriers to care.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments to identify physical, emotional, psychosocial, and educational needs.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans to promote positive maternal and infant outcomes.
- Coordinate referrals, authorizations, consultations, and appointments for obstetric, gynecologic, fertility, and specialty healthcare services.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including primary care providers, obstetricians, gynecologists, fertility specialists, social workers, mental health providers, and community care partners.
- Monitor Veterans throughout pregnancy to ensure timely prenatal care, recommended screenings, and appropriate follow-up services.
- Provide patient education regarding fertility treatment options, reproductive health, prenatal care, childbirth preparation, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
- Track high-risk pregnancies and coordinate interventions to address medical, behavioral health, or social determinants of health concerns.
- Facilitate access to VA benefits, maternity care coordination programs, lactation support services, and community resources.
- Assess and address barriers to care, including transportation, housing instability, financial concerns, and access to healthcare services.
- Provide ongoing case management and care coordination to ensure continuity of care between VA and community providers.
- Review clinical documentation, laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and specialist recommendations to support effective care planning.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with VA policies and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor patient outcomes and quality indicators related to maternity and fertility care services.
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives related to women's health and reproductive services.
- Advocate for Veteran-centered, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based care throughout the reproductive healthcare continuum.
- Educate staff regarding maternity care coordination processes, fertility services, and reproductive health resources available to Veterans.
- Ensure compliance with VA directives, accreditation standards, community care requirements, and nursing practice standards.
- Utilize clinical judgment and nursing expertise to identify complications, coordinate appropriate interventions, and escalate concerns when necessary.
- Coordinate infertility evaluations and treatment services for eligible Veterans.
- Monitor Veterans receiving assisted reproductive technology (ART) services and fertility-related procedures.
- Follow Veterans through pregnancy and up to one year postpartum to support maternal health and wellness.
- Screen for postpartum depression, intimate partner violence, and other psychosocial concerns, facilitating referrals as needed.
- Coordinate newborn healthcare enrollment and follow-up services when applicable.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for maternity and fertility care programs within the VA healthcare system.
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Subject to background/security investigation.
- Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements ( Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

- English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.)
- Two or more years of nursing experience in an outpatient women's clinic, primary care, or similar setting.
- Care Coordination experience.
- Quality Program Assurance and Performance Improvement experience.
- Master's Degree in Nursing or other applicable subject area, and/or Clinical Nurse Leader Certification or similar.
