Sterile Processing Tech II- Full Time Days

The Sterile Processing Tech II reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities include demonstrating knowledge and use of the Tray Tracking computer system in assigned areas of the department, decontaminating, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instruments in compliance with all established policies and procedures including infection control protocols, inspecting, sorting, and processing surgical instrumentation in accordance to policy and procedures, assembling and organizing surgical instrument sets according to instrument count sheets, preparing instrument trays for sterilization by appropriately wrapping or utilizing a sterilization container, performing quality assurance and biological testing on equipment and documenting accordingly, operating ultrasonic cleaner, washer-decontaminator, heat-sealing apparatus, sterilizers and cart washers within established guidelines, maintaining logs, preparing, checking and recording test results, executing proper procedures for equipment malfunctions, preparing and delivering accurate and timely case carts for use in surgical procedures, responding to instrument and supply requests from customers in a timely manner, maintaining a friendly, clean and orderly work environment, checking and reprocessing any expired items, accurately preparing and labeling items for the appropriate method of sterilization, acting as a resource to other staff, maintaining a working knowledge of all areas of the department by rotating through assigned work areas to ensure service needs of the customer are meet, maintaining National or International Certification for Sterile Processing and Distribution, assisting in responsibility as a self-directed professional for continuing education, completing work from previous shift to accommodate department schedules, dispensing and delivering materials via dumbwaiter, tube system, elevator and/or handcarts, performing role of preceptor during training of new employees, communicating issues, problems and concerns to management in a timely manner, ability to use established communication channels in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner, when coverage needed, and performing other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma, current certification by the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel (NICHSPD) or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD), experience and knowledge of surgical instrumentation, and experience and knowledge in the use of all types of sterilization processes, decontamination, packing and shelf life, including aseptic techniques and their applications to various items processed. Preferred previous experience.
