Overview

The Retirement Plan Specialist is responsible for managing and administering corporate 401(k) plans to ensure compliance and operational efficiency. This role requires a strong understanding of retirement plan regulations, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accurate and complete records. Must have excellent communication, time management, and analytical skills to effectively support clients and collaborate with internal teams.

How you'll make an impact

• Consult with clients to design retirement plans that align with their goals and meet regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and maintain plan documents, including Summary Plan Descriptions.
• Ensure compliance with federal regulations like ERISA and IRS guidelines.
• Process plan transactions, such as loans, distributions, and rollovers, with accuracy and care.
• Conduct annual compliance testing and assist with audit preparation.
• File required documents, including Form 5500 and Safe Harbor notices.
• Collaborate with recordkeepers and custodians to ensure smooth plan operations.
• Provide clear and timely responses to client inquiries about plan features and compliance.
• Track and reconcile plan contributions, ensuring timely reporting and remittance.
• Support onboarding and training for new plan sponsors or changes in plan design.

About You

Required:

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• At least 1 year of experience in client service, benefits administration, or a related field.

Preferred:

• Appropriate license
• Relevant licenses or certifications.
• Credentials such as ASPPA, QKA, or higher.
• Familiarity with ERISA rules and guidelines.
• Preferred 3–5 years of experience in retirement plan administration, with a focus on 401(k) plans.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
• Experience using Relius administration software to manage plan operations.
• Hold industry certification like ASPPA (preferred) and may have experience mentoring others.
