Purpose The Research Operations Division within the Advanced Technology Laboratory is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Electrical/Mechanical Technician (TSA III) to support the fabrication, maintenance, and testing of specialized electro-mechanical systems. This position involves the assembly of prototype and production units, construction of acoustic arrays, and various electro/mech assemblies. This position also requires collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to ensure the delivery of high-quality products. Responsibilities Fabricate, prototype, and produce electro-mechanical assemblies. Evaluate and repair specialized electrical and mechanical equipment. Construct and encapsulate acoustic arrays and cables. Interpret and apply instructions, schematics, and technical drawings effectively. Manage part procurement, vendor coordination, and quality control of components and assemblies. Perform routine data entry to support tracking and logistics. Maintain accurate documentation for quality assurance and assembly processes. Other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Two years of experience in the assembly, fabrication, testing, maintenance, or repair of electrical, electronic, mechanical, or electro-mechanical equipment using hand and power tools. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook sufficient to create and maintain documentation, spreadsheets, inventory records, and reports. Proficient math skills including fractions, measurements, area and perimeter calculations, rounding, and basic arithmetic functions. Demonstrated ability to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member with and without daily supervision, work several overlapping projects over a short period of time, ability to work within an environment with rapidly changing priorities, and effectively communicate with all groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance. US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate for the position. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems at both the component and system level. Experience with surface-mount and through-hole PCB assembly, soldering, inspection, and rework. J-STD-001 and/or IPC-A-610 certification preferred. Experience performing precision electro-mechanical assembly under magnification, including microscope-assisted inspection and rework. Working knowledge of electronic circuits, wiring practices, soldering techniques, and the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings. Experience fabricating, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting cable and harness assemblies. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience working with assembly tools, fabrication equipment, and precision measurement devices. Experience with potting compounds, adhesives, encapsulation, conformal coatings, and related manufacturing processes. Familiarity with inventory control systems, procurement processes, and vendor coordination. Experience working in research, laboratory, manufacturing, defense, or prototype development environments. Experience interpreting and making minor modifications to engineering drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software. Experience using GitLab for source control, version management, issue tracking, documentation management, and collaboration within technical or engineering teams. Active security clearance preferred; candidates without a current clearance must be eligible to obtain and maintain the required security clearance. Physical ability to climb ladders and lift items weighing over 50 lbs. Possession of a Texas Boater Education Certificate or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire. Driving Required This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing). Salary Range $45,000-$49,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications. Working Conditions Work in a shared integration laboratory with access to machining and fabrication equipment. Work in a production environment building assemblies that utilize adhesives, potting compounds, solvents, and other potentially hazardous materials. Occasional work at the Lake Travis Test Station. Occasional interstate and intrastate travel. May work around electrical and mechanical hazards. Physical ability to climb ladders and lift items weighing more than 50 pounds. Some weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required.
