Licensed Psychologist (NY HELPS)

Duties The Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS), Division for Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) is seeking a licensed psychologist to serve the multidisciplinary treatment team in a juvenile justice residential setting. The Licensed Psychologist is responsible for: Ordering and maintaining updated testing and assessment materials. Supervising testing and assessment completed by masters‑level psychologists and unlicensed psychologists (Psychologist 2, Associate Psychologist). Admission screening, including mental status exam and suicide assessment. 30‑day assessment, including administration of mental health and substance‑use screens, youth and collateral interviews, and record review to develop a psychosocial assessment and treatment plan. Collaborating and planning treatment with the assigned psychiatrist. Providing individual and group counseling and psychotherapy. Conducting treatment reviews. Administering cognitive and other psychological tests as indicated. Serving as a member of the facility Committee on Special Education. Discharge planning. The Licensed Psychologist works with youth case managers, direct‑care staff, education and medical staff to develop and enact comprehensive treatment plans aimed at enhancing youths’ skills in emotional intelligence, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. The Licensed Psychologist reports to the Facility Assistant Director for Treatment (ADT) and receives individual and group clinical supervision. A monthly state‑wide psychology supervision group offers opportunity to discuss cases and systems with peers across the nine DJJOY facilities. Starting salary is $121,413, with geographic pay up to $20,000. Additional benefits include NY Department of Education approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and numerous clinical trainings. Minimum Qualifications Licensed and currently registered to practice psychology in New York State. Must maintain a valid New York State license and registration. One year of permanent competitive or 55(b)/c service in this title or a title eligible for 70.1 transfer. Open to the Public under the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Candidates must meet the open‑competitive minimum qualifications for this position. Background Investigation Requirements Criminal background check (CBC) including state and federal criminal history. All convictions must be reported. Felony, misdemeanor and falsified information may bar or remove appointment. Screening against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Inspection against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Names on the SEL for serious or repeated abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment.
