Lab Admin

Title: System/Lab Admin

Location: Austin, TX

Key Responsibilities

1. Lab Infrastructure Management

• Own end-to-end management of the Dell server lab used for performance, scalability, and endurance testing
• Install, rack, cable, label, and document Dell PowerEdge servers (15G/16G/17G)
• Maintain inventory of servers, NICs, HBAs, storage, switches, cables, and licenses
• Plan and manage lab capacity, hardware refresh, and expansion

2. Server & Hardware Administration

• Configure BIOS, firmware, iDRAC, RAID, and lifecycle controller settings
• Perform firmware upgrades for BIOS, NICs, RAID, BMC, and storage controllers
• Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware issues (CPU, memory, disk, NIC, PCIe)
• Coordinate with Dell support for hardware replacements (FRUs, RMAs)

3. Virtualization Management

• Install, configure, and maintain VMware ESXi , vCenter , and clusters
• Configure NUMA, CPU pinning, memory reservations, and huge pages
• Optimize virtualization settings for benchmarking accuracy and repeatability

4. Networking Administration

• Configure and manage L2/L3 networking for lab environments
• Hands-on with VLANs, trunking, bonding/LACP, MTU (jumbo frames)
• Configure and troubleshoot 10/25/40/100 GbE NICs and switches
• Support iSCSI, NFS, NVMe/TCP, RDMA (RoCE) networking setups
• Collaborate with network teams for switch firmware, topology, and performance tuning

5. Storage & Data Management

• Configure and manage local and shared storage for performance tests
• Support SAN/NAS/iSCSI/NFS/NVMe-oF configurations
• Maintain test datasets, snapshots, backups, and restores
• Ensure consistent storage configurations across test cycles

6. Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with QA, performance, DevOps, and architecture teams
• Support multiple concurrent projects and test cycles
• Provide on-call or after-hours support during critical test windows

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Dell PowerEdge servers and iDRAC
• Expertise in VMware ESXi, vCenter, and virtualization performance tuning
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing)
• Experience with high-speed networking (25/40/100GbE)
• Storage knowledge across SAN, NAS, iSCSI, NFS, NVMe-oF
• Experience supporting performance benchmarking environments
• Scripting and automation skills (Python / PowerShell / Bash)

Soft Skills

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Excellent documentation and organizational skills
• bility to work independently and manage complex labs
• Clear communication with cross-functional teams

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Relevant certifications (VMware, Dell, Networking) are a plus
