Salary: $25-$28/hour
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team in La Porte, Indiana. This position will be responsible for accurately and efficiently processing union and non-union payroll across multiple states , ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with applicable payroll regulations and company policies.


The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working with confidential information, able to manage multiple deadlines, and thrives in a fast-paced environment . Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees, managers, and internal teams are essential.
Key Responsibilities

• Process weekly, biweekly, or other scheduled payrolls for both union and non-union employees across multiple states.
  
  
• Accurately calculate regular hours, overtime, differentials, bonuses, deductions, garnishments, benefits, and other payroll adjustments.
  
  
• Ensure payroll is processed accurately and within established deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  
  
• Interpret and apply union agreements, wage requirements, and payroll rules as they relate to employee compensation.
  
  
• Maintain accurate payroll records and reconcile payroll data to ensure discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
  
  
• Coordinate with HR, Accounting, managers, and employees to resolve payroll questions and issues.
  
  
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll requirements across multiple states.
  
  
• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
  
  
• Assist with payroll reporting, audits, year-end activities, W-2s, and other payroll-related projects as needed.
  
  
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
  
  

Qualifications

• 2+ years of payroll experience , preferably in a multi-state environment.
  
  
• Experience processing both union and non-union payroll strongly preferred.
  
  
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, wage calculations, deductions, and payroll compliance.
  
  
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  
  
• Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organization.
  
  
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and payroll information.
  
  
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  
  
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and payroll/HRIS systems.
  
  
• Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member.
