About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Travel experience preferred, but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered. No license or background hits. Description: Registered Nurses will be required to pass a skills exam during orientation. The exam is open book and resources will be provided to succeed. A score of 90% is required to pass, or termination may occur. Artificial nails are prohibited in all areas providing patient care. Failure to comply will lead to termination. A driver's license is required for submission. Candidates must be outside a specified radius to apply. Unit specializes in MedSurg/Telemetry patients, including strokes and post-neurosurgery procedures. Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, and COPD exacerbations. Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:5-6. Registered Nurses are required to titrate specific drips such as heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine. There is a charge nurse on each shift who also takes an assignment. Nurse aids and patient care technicians are present on the unit. Registered Nurses are expected to manage patient care independently. Telemonitor technicians will interpret strips, but Registered Nurses should have tele awareness. Shifts run from 0630-1900 and 1830-0700. Limited block scheduling is approved, but flexibility is required. Every other weekend is typically required, potentially more based on census needs. Holidays are required for 2-3 shifts between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. Registered Nurses may need to float to other areas with MedSurg patients as necessary. Navy blue scrubs are the required attire for this position. Mechanical lifts are available in every other room. The unit prioritizes hourly rounding and responsiveness to patient needs. A successful nurse on this unit manages daily operations effectively and demonstrates strong teamwork and compassion. The unit serves a diverse patient population, catering to various cultural needs.
