Accountant (Austin) The mission of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is to promote and support a workforce system that creates value and offers employers, individuals, and communities the opportunity to achieve and sustain economic prosperity. To support our mission, we are looking for an Accountant to join the Travel Department. This position is located at 101 E. 15th St, Austin, Texas. TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas. The Accountant III-V performs moderately complex to highly complex (senior-level) accounting work. Works under general to limited supervision, with limited to considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Key Responsibilities Review and audit travel and related documents for accuracy and compliance with rules and regulations. Classify, code, and post travel and related documents to financial systems. Maintain, post, and balance accounting and financial statements, records, documents, or reports. Research and assist in resolving discrepancies with vendor and employee travel and related transactions. Maintain and balance financial statements and reports. Assist in making recommendations for improvements or revisions to procedures. May specialize in some phase of accounting work such as federal funds accounting, property and equipment control, cost, budgeting, or bond servicing. May supervise the work of others. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Accountant III: Two years of full‑time experience in accounting, finance, or a related field. Account IV: Two years and six months of full‑time experience in accounting, finance, or a related field. Accountant V: Three years of full‑time experience in accounting, finance, or a related field. All Levels: A license to practice as a certified public accountant in Texas will satisfy the education and/or experience requirements. We Value Experience in accounting, auditing, business, or financial operations. Knowledge or experience with state governmental travel processes. Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field. Knowledge of PeopleSoft, Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), and Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS). Skills in using business software (spreadsheets, word processing packages, and databases) and statistical analysis. Benefits A family‑friendly certified workplace.
