Cost Accountant

Randstad is seeking a high-caliber Cost Accounting Consultant for a high-impact, short-term strategic initiative across a 13-company Private Equity portfolio. In this role, you will act as a key diagnostic partner, visiting every portfolio company to evaluate its true cost to produce, benchmark actual costs against quoted models, and map out margin gaps. This 90 project will commence after Labor Day! Requirements: 

• Senior Cost Accounting Experience: Background in manufacturing/operations cost accounting, standard costing systems, activity-based costing, and shop-floor cost drivers.
• Financial Modeling & FP&A: Expert-level skill in building dynamic financial models, true-up reconciliations, and strategic margin analyses from raw data
• Private Equity / Multi-Site Exposure: Ability to quickly get up to speed with controller teams, adapt to varied manufacturing environments, and present unified insights.
• Diagnostic Mindset: Proven ability to analyze complex operational data, isolate root causes, and summarize financial metrics without getting bogged down in implementation.

Responsibilities

• End-to-End Audits: Partner directly with controllers across all 13 portfolio companies to review costing methodologies, inventory management, and month-end close processes
• BOM & Routing Testing: Test Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings against actual shop-floor practices to expose operational variance
• Cost Reconstruction: Rebuild true manufacturing costs using the correct baseline denominators and prioritize identified discrepancies
• Divergence Analysis: Pinpoint precisely where, why, and by how much quoted costs diverge from actual shop-floor costs
• P&L to Quote Reconciliation: Build dynamic true-up models linking actual P&L cost performance directly back to quoting assumptions
• Order Testing: Sample and analyze real-world customer orders to quantify quoted vs. actual gross margin impact
