Position Civil Engineer IV — Department of Transportation, Bureau of Bridge Maintenance, State of New Hampshire Summary Responsible for professional engineering supervision of statewide bridge maintenance functions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and departmental policies, risk management, safety, and environmental standards. Responsibilities Supervise bridge maintenance crews and implement safe, efficient construction practices; review crew performance and provide recommendations. Generate and review designs and field engineering necessary to support bureau maintenance and construction needs. Act as engineering liaison and facilitate communication between construction personnel, office staff, and the department. Implement and coordinate management systems with field crew operations, including performance‑measure reviews. Develop training programs on best materials and methods to improve project quality and production. Manage, recommend, and implement modifications to computerized database systems for tracking equipment and consumables; assess needs and order materials and equipment. Collaborate with Program Specialist to track and implement safety programs. Assist the bureau and department by serving on workgroups, committees, and task forces as directed. Coordinate with other department bureaus and districts on equipment, personnel, permits, traffic control, public relations, utilities, contractors, funding, project and procurement information, and computer‑related training. Represent the bureau and department at public meetings that discuss work performed by the bureau. Supervise operation of the bureau's warehouse, including material transactions, specialized fabrication, and equipment maintenance and management. Minimum Qualifications Education: Master’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in engineering; or Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering; or Associate’s degree with a major in engineering or engineering technology. Experience: Four years of post‑baccalaureate engineering experience (for master’s); six years of post‑baccalaureate experience (for bachelor’s); or six years of engineering experience at the level of Civil Engineer I or higher plus two additional years in a comparable Engineering Technician position (for associate’s). License/Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) license designating Civil, Civil Highway, Geo‑Technical, or Structural Engineering; valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting minimum standards established by the hiring agency. After‑Hire Requirements Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New Hampshire within one year of employment.
