Job Title: Model & Applications DeveloperLocation: Lake Forest, CA / Houston, TXEmployment Type: Full-timeThe JobThe Model & Applications team is responsible for developing and maintaining the first-principles mathematical models at the core of AVEVA Process Simulation. Using an equation-oriented solver architecture, we deliver rigorous equipment models that serve customers across refining, chemicals, renewables, and beyond. As part of this team, you will work at the intersection of chemical engineering, applied mathematics, and software development contributing to models that run in steady-state, dynamic, flow-driven, and pressure-driven simulation modes.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, maintain, and improve first-principles mathematical models for simulating chemical process equipment in both steady-state and dynamic modesImplement model equations within a collaborative environment using standard Agile software development practices including version control, pull requests, and automated testingDiagnose and resolve complex simulation issues escalated from technical support, applying subject matter expertise to identify root causesCollaborate within multidisciplinary squads alongside software developers, thermodynamicists, and solver/optimization engineers to deliver new simulation capabilitiesEssential RequirementsB.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent demonstrated experience in process modeling)Ability to derive and formulate systems of equations from first principles (mass, energy, and momentum balances)Strong foundation in transport phenomena and thermodynamicsFamiliarity with equation-oriented or simultaneous-equation solving approachesDesired Skills and CompetenciesExperience with process simulation platforms (AVEVA, Aspen, etc.) and understanding solver convergence behaviorProgramming (Python, C++, C#, or similar) with experience working in a shared codebase using version control (e.g., Git)Breadth across multiple process domains (separations, reaction systems, heat exchange, pressure networks) with the ability to develop expertise in unfamiliar areasAbility to communicate complex mathematical and engineering concepts clearly to cross-functional stakeholders including developers, product managers, and customersA record of initiative and independent problem-solving: research contributions, open-source development, or self-directed technical projectsR&D at AVEVA Our global team of 2000+ developers work on an incredibly diverse portfolio of over 75 industrial automation and engineering products, which cover everything from data management to 3D design.
