Position Overview Police Officer 3 – Police and Wildlife Enforcement (State Service) at Louisiana State University, Alexandria. Responsible for policing and ensuring the safety of the university campus, \u201CThe Oaks\u201D housing, the Evacuation Center, and surrounding areas. May also serve as an assistant shift supervisor overseeing police services on assigned shifts. Required Qualifications At least two (2) years of law‑enforcement experience. College training may substitute for one year of experience on the basis of thirty semester hours of training. P.O.S.T. certified; supplemental copies of certification must be provided with the application. Score earned on the 2100 Protect‑ive Services Exam (PSE) is required unless legally exempted by Civil Service rule or policy. Candidates without a current score may take the test prior to application. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of appointment. Must possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license at the time of appointment. Must be eligible to qualify annually at the firing range with the duty weapon. Must be eligible to bond. Must have no felony convictions or be under indictment on a felony charge; such status disqualifies the applicant until relief is granted by state and federal laws. Additional Requirements Background check and drug screen required. Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $21.27 per hour applies to new appointments. Special categories and substitutions (e.g., substitute experience for college training) apply as stated in the Civil Service rules. Pay and Benefits Salary range: $40,082 – $72,155 per year (Class PS110). Special Entrance Rate: $21.27 per hour. Responsibilities Protect lives and property through active foot and mobile patrol, defensive tactics, and use of law‑enforcement equipment. Conduct investigations, collect evidence, and assist partner agencies during emergencies. Enforce parking, traffic, and campus regulations; issue citations and provide courtesy assistance to the public. Provide first aid and emergency assistance; serve on the First Aid Team and Campus Safety Committee. Maintain close working relationships with Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and other local agencies; communicate via radio with emergency centers. Work unsupervised during routine and emergency patrols; submit reports and retain relevant information. Perform additional duties as assigned, including serving on hazardous materials or crisis intervention teams. Assist as an assistant shift supervisor, overseeing the full range of police services on an assigned shift, if assigned.
