About the Role
The Company is seeking a Deputy Chief of Legal Services to assist in the management of a legal team and to ensure that the department's decisions and policies align with federal and state statutes and directives. The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of the legislative process, the ability to analyze and interpret legislation, and experience in monitoring and evaluating the impact of legislation on departmental programs. Responsibilities include participating in the formulation of overall policy, drafting policy statements, and serving in a professional capacity for legislative liaison functions. The role also involves supervising a staff of attorneys and legal assistants, as well as representing the department in legal matters. Applicants for the Deputy Chief of Legal Services position at the company must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and be a member of the Rhode Island bar. The ideal candidate will have a background in a supervisory legal role, with experience in the interpretation and application of laws, rules, and regulations. Key skills and capacities required for the role include the ability to exercise sound judgment in legal matters, and to plan, organize, and direct the work of a legal team. The Deputy Chief will be expected to work under the administrative direction of a superior, with a high level of independence, and to ensure that all work is in conformance with established policies and legal requirements.
