Job Description

This role focuses on assembling bearings, shafts, gearboxes, and related mechanical components according to detailed specifications and drawings. You will use a variety of hand and power tools, measuring devices, and assembly fixtures to build and install drive systems, rotating components, and mechanical subassemblies. The position requires careful blueprint reading, precise mechanical work, and ongoing quality checks to ensure all equipment operates reliably and meets company standards.

Responsibilities

• Assemble bearings, shafts, gearboxes, and related mechanical components according to specifications and assembly drawings.
• Use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and assembly fixtures to complete mechanical assemblies safely and accurately.
• Perform bearing installation, alignment, and fit-up to ensure proper operation and longevity of equipment.
• Assist with the assembly and installation of drive systems, rotating components, and mechanical subassemblies.
• Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and assembly drawings to plan and execute assembly tasks.
• Verify parts and components prior to assembly and promptly report any discrepancies or issues.
• Conduct quality checks throughout the assembly process to ensure products meet established standards and specifications.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company safety practices.
• Work collaboratively with production, engineering, and quality teams to meet production goals and deadlines.
• Support fabrication and welding-related assembly work as needed, including working with steel and welded components.

Essential Skills

• Experience in mechanical assembly, manufacturing, maintenance, automotive, agricultural equipment, or industrial equipment environments is preferred.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively for mechanical and assembly work.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, assembly drawings, or mechanical schematics is preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how components fit and function together.
• Solid problem-solving skills to troubleshoot assembly issues and ensure proper fit and operation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods during the workday.
• Reliable attendance and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
• Comfort working with steel components and fabricated parts.
• Ability to perform basic quality checks using measuring devices and inspection tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in welding or fabrication, including MIG welding and weld assembly, is a plus.
• Experience working as a MIG welder or in weld assembly environments is beneficial.
• Prior exposure to production environments involving steel fabrication and mechanical assembly is advantageous.
• Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret fabrication and weld symbols, are highly valued.
• Experience in environments where cross-training across assembly, fabrication, and welding tasks is encouraged.
• Comfort working in an industrial setting with rotating equipment and mechanical drive systems.

Work Environment

This role is based in a dirty production environment within an older, nostalgic industrial facility. Temperatures are controlled, but you should be comfortable working in hot or cold conditions depending on the season. The team consists of approximately 10 assembly and welding professionals, and these positions are being added to increase overall efficiency. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional overtime available on Friday and Saturday. Work involves regular handling of steel components, use of hand and power tools, and standing for extended periods in an active production area.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of DES MOINES, IA.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
