ngVLA Project Manager

Salary: $144,000 - 180,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or electrical, or in astronomy, physical science, or a closely related discipline.
• We require at least 15 years of hands-on experience leading and managing technical projects.
• We require strong verbal and written communication skills.
• We require proven leadership capability and exceptional attention to detail.
• We require advanced proficiency with Microsoft software, web-based platforms, Visio, and SharePoint.
• We prefer experience in one or more of the following areas: astronomical telescopes, radio telescopes, RF systems, microwave systems, millimeter-wave systems, photonics, or high-speed digital electronics.
• PMI PMP certification and INCOSE ASEP certification, or higher, are highly desirable.
• We require authorization to work in the United States, and we are unable to sponsor H-1B visas for this role.

• We lead the technical work of the ngVLA and HRS Project Office and guide product teams through the design stages and into construction.
• We oversee project scope, track schedule performance, and manage budget execution.
• We assess project risks, build contingency plans, identify risk triggers, and launch mitigation actions when needed.
• We apply project management standards, processes, tools, methods, and support services using best practices.
• We build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including funding agencies, domestic and international partners, and vendors.

We are the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, a respected research and development organization advancing the study of the universe through major radio astronomy initiatives. Through Associated Universities, Inc., we operate under a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation.
