A leader in rugged embedded computing solutions supporting military, aerospace, industrial, and high-reliability applications is hiring a Senior BIOS/UEFI Engineer for new product development. This role serves as the Huntsville engineering organization's key BIOS/UEFI specialist, working closely with hardware, FPGA, firmware, and software engineers on next-generation embedded computing products, starting with an AMI/Intel reference BIOS and customizing it for newly designed hardware.

Full-time, onsite in Huntsville, AL. Minimal travel required. Relocation assistance available.

Compensation
$150,000 to $190,000 per year.

What You'll Do
This engineer develops and customizes UEFI BIOS for new rugged embedded computing products, working from an AMI/Intel reference BIOS and adapting it to newly designed hardware. The role performs BIOS bring-up on new boards and debugs hardware and firmware issues during initial board startup, working closely with hardware, FPGA, and other firmware engineers to validate system functionality. This position supports interfaces such as USB, PCI Express, SATA, and other board-level functionality, and takes BIOS development from initial bring-up through production. The engineer has meaningful technical ownership of how the BIOS is developed and is involved from initial board bring-up through a working product, solving hardware-versus-firmware issues alongside engineers from multiple disciplines.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on BIOS development experience (less considered for an exceptional background)
• Strong experience developing UEFI BIOS; modern UEFI experience required rather than legacy BIOS exposure alone
• Demonstrated experience personally developing BIOS, not simply working with systems that use BIOS
• Experience with BIOS bring-up on newly designed hardware, where the candidate's BIOS ran on the board they helped bring up
• Strong working proficiency in C
• Ability to perform low-level programming involving registers, memory, and peripherals
• Experience customizing or porting BIOS to new hardware
• Strong understanding of hardware/firmware interaction
• Experience troubleshooting hardware and firmware integration issues during board bring-up
• Ability to work directly with hardware engineers and other engineering disciplines
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with Intel reference BIOS, Intel/x86/x86-64 platforms, and computer architecture and platform initialization
• Ability and willingness to work full-time onsite in Huntsville, Alabama

Preferred Qualifications

• AMI BIOS or Phoenix BIOS experience
• Secure Boot / Trusted Boot experience
• Intel Core i7 experience
• AMD processor / Ryzen UEFI experience
• ARM, NXP/Freescale, or PowerPC experience
• Built-In Test (BIT) and IPMI experience
• Embedded Linux, Xilinx SDK, NXP K21, U-Boot, or Slim Bootloader experience
• RTOS experience
• GCC and cross-compiler experience
• Rugged embedded computing background, including VPX/OpenVPX, VME, or CompactPCI
• Defense or aerospace industry experience, including familiarity with DO-178B/C
• Git or Perforce experience
• Klocwork or other static analysis tool experience
• Jenkins/continuous integration, JIRA, Confluence, and Agile/Scrum environment experience
• Experience supporting BIOS through product release, manufacturing, or sustaining activities
