Ocean Import Coordinator

Altius Talent is partnering with a growing international freight forwarding and logistics provider to find an experienced Ocean Import Coordinator to join their team in the Jamaica, NY area. Position Overview The Ocean Import Coordinator will manage the end-to-end coordination of ocean import shipments, ensuring smooth cargo flow from origin through customs clearance to final delivery. This role requires strong attention to detail, a solid grasp of import compliance, and the ability to manage multiple shipments and client accounts simultaneously. Key Responsibilities Coordinate and manage ocean import shipments from booking through final delivery Prepare and review import documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists Liaise with customs brokers to ensure timely and compliant clearance of shipments Track shipments and proactively communicate status updates to clients and internal stakeholders Resolve shipment discrepancies, delays, and exceptions in a timely manner Maintain accurate records in the freight management system Build and maintain strong working relationships with shipping lines, overseas agents, and trucking/haulage providers Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and import requirements Support invoicing and billing accuracy for assigned accounts Key Skills & Qualifications Proven experience in ocean import operations within freight forwarding or logistics Strong working knowledge of import documentation, ISF filing, and U.S. customs clearance processes Familiarity with freight forwarding software/TMS platforms Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment Prior experience working with NVOCC or ocean carriers preferred What's on Offer Competitive salary ($65,000 - $70,000) Opportunity to join a growing, well-established logistics provider Collaborative team environment Room for professional growth within the organization #J-18808-Ljbffr Altius Talent | Freight Forwarding Recruitment
