Job Description
The D epartment of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Administrative Services (DAS), Payroll Section , is recruiting for Payroll Services Supervisor! This position is in the Confidential Bargaining Unit at a range 17. This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our Definition FAQ to determine if you qualify. Please Note: This position requires full-time on-site work at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson to facilitate collaboration with various divisions supported by DAS' Administrative Section. Remote work may be permitted up to two days a week, subject to the hiring manager's approval, and/or successful completion of probation. What You Will Be Doing: As DMVA's new Payroll Services Supervisor, you will take on a central leadership role, working closely with the HR Business Partner and DAS management while overseeing all payroll functions for the agency. You will supervise a small team of two HR Technicians, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll actions, timesheets, and other cyclical tasks. The team, based at the Juneau Auke Bay Armory, will focus on agency-specific needs while maintaining compliance with state laws, collective bargaining agreements, and regulations affecting both covered and non-covered employees. In this hands-on supervisory role, you will lead, coach, and develop your team while fostering a healthy, sustainable workplace culture that supports work-life balance. You will act as the agency's primary payroll certifier, maintaining strong internal controls and data integrity, and handling complex payroll tasks while training staff to grow their capabilities. Additionally, you will collaborate with the HRBP and Department of Administration to provide policy guidance and technical expertise, particularly as the State's subject matter expert on payroll processes related to State Active Duty, military leave, and military orders, ensuring consistency and compliance across departments.
