The Biological Sciences faculty have recently moved into a brand new building, Innovation Hall, including state of the art labs, and facilities for plants and cell culture. We do not have vertebrate animal facilities on campus, but welcome research programs working with invertebrate, or cell systems. The campus also has a greenhouse, a 52-acre restored wetland, and a new environmental education center at St. Edwards State Park (EERC), all of which contribute to our mission of high quality undergraduate education and research. We believe students learn biology best by engaging in the scientific process, and we are committed to teaching practices that foster learning in students from a variety of backgrounds, including students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in science. The School of STEM is the largest school at UW Bothell, and we are a school committed to attracting diverse faculty and staff who create an exceptional student experience in support of our core values of Collaboration, Opportunities, Responsibility, and Engagement . Our faculty members are dynamic educators who engage in innovative, evidence-based pedagogies. We have also recently launched our Center for Biotechnology Innovation & Training (CBIT), which is housed in the School of STEM, to provide a trained, skilled workforce to support the growing biotechnology industry in Bothell and the greater Puget Sound region and facilitate cutting edge biotechnology research for faculty and students in collaboration with industry. Opportunity is a core value of the School of STEM.
