Payroll Tax Analyst

Job Summary The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for maintaining the general ledger in accordance with US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and performing a full range of accounting tasks with respect to US payroll. Responsibilities Assist with month‑end/year‑end close in support of US Accounting. Create weekly and semi‑monthly general ledger journal entries. Assist with general ledger mapping issues for new hires and transfers. Assist with general ledger account reconciliations, including balance sheet and income statement accounts. Assist with prepaid and accrual account reconciliations. Assist with general ledger postings to field units. Prepare payroll reports requested by field accounting and other departments. Assist with monthly bank reconciliation issues. Manage the escheatment process, including researching, contacting employees, reissuing checks, and preparing state reporting. Research monthly lump‑sum uncashed check refunds. Issue replacement checks or direct deposits for stale‑dated checks and direct deposit reversals, stop‑pays, and rejected/deleted deposits. Review early cashed check fee reports and assist with chargebacks to the units. Assist with quarterly and annual payroll audits. Assist with IS payroll tax issues and filings. Update payroll tax rates in the company’s databases based on rate change notices. Provide support for payroll transactions as requested by US accounting. Research potential check fraud transactions. Create and amend internal controls, policies, and procedures. Only candidates lawfully authorized to work in the designated country will be considered. Requirements Minimum 3 years of general accounting experience in an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) environment. Minimum 3+ years of payroll accounting or general accounting experience in a Workday environment. Must possess strong tax knowledge or formal tax‑related qualifications, combined with relevant Workday experience. Excellent mathematical and analytical skills. Extremely proficient with spreadsheets and database query skills. Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with US GAAP and payroll accounting practices. Advanced proficiency in Excel and data analysis. Must be extremely proficient in spreadsheets. Preferred 1–3 years of SAP experience in FI/CO (ideal). Experience with Workday Payroll, Workday Financials, and/or Workday General Ledger (strongly preferred). Soft Skills Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to plan and organize work schedules, establish workload priorities, and perform assigned tasks in a timely manner.
